We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Flobo Boyce a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Flobo, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’m a firm believer that your passion chooses you. Sure, open yourself up to experiment. Of course, make sure you make ends meet. However, that thought that pops into your mind when you’re in the shower, or commuting to work, or at the end of your day shouldn’t be ignored. Don’t worry about what others think. Don’t worry about whether or not you’re going to be the “best” at it. Take a swing and go for it.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I always tell others “If it involves a microphone, it involves me.” I’m a master of ceremonies, broadcaster, podcaster, combat sports and esports commentator and voice over artist. It’s always a thrill to present an audio aesthetic or “vibe” to any of the events or projects I’ve worked on.
Whether it’s commentary on the College Rocket League circuit or hosting a professional wrestling podcast that airs globally, I can say that my voice is heard in dozens of countries a week.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I wish I had three, but to me there’s only one that encompasses everything else: Flexibility. Flexibility to try new things. Flexibility to pivot to other projects. Flexibility to work with new and different stakeholders. Finding a way to your goals that wasn’t the path in your mind when starting is worth its weight in gold.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I find writing down your challenges helps to put things to perspective. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, a solution pops into my head directly. Most of the time however, it helps to priortize which aspect of your challenges needs the most attention.
