Meet Jennifer Denise James

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Denise James a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an actress and film producer. From a young age, I started dancing which eventually led me down the acting route into TV and Film at 14 years old. I knew that I wanted to learn more about the film industry and create stories, so I also attended University to get a degree in Drama and Film. I set up my production company in 2020, where I began producing my own writing along with taking on outside projects to produce. Since then, the company has produced six short films and going into production for our first feature film — Blueberry Pancakes & Blank Pages.

Producing films has given me such an insight into the industry as an actor, and a new profound respect for behind the camera. I am represented in both the UK and US (as a dual national) for my acting and have been featured in Peaky Blinders Series 5, along with starring in award winning short films. I hope to continue my acting career across both countries, and make my break out role sometime soon.

Double J Productions has many projects in development, all which can be followed on our instagram @double_j_productions. We also have many products launching soon on our PayHip account for you to purchase, so look out for that either on our website or store front!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, the number one thing I reflect on is my perseverance to not give up. The creative industry is a tough business, but if you do not give up and persevere for your dream, it will all pay off. Little steps do count! Over the course of my career, I have learned that you are going to work with people you get on with really well, and some that you don’t — but that is okay! The important thing you can do is trying your best everyday with what you are given, and to stay calm and kind in high pressure situations.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
As a film producer and actor, I love finding new people to collaborate with, and create exciting narratives! If you are an actor, filmmaker, or creative designers — do get in touch at [email protected]. Please no project pitches for funding, as we do not accept any more projects without funding already attached.
