We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dalton Tracee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dalton, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Work ethic, in my opinion, is derived from a deep sense of desire and passion for what one does. When you are genuinely enthusiastic about your work, it becomes easier to maintain a strong work ethic. It’s the inner drive that compels you to put in the time and effort required to excel in your field. In my experience, if I lack motivation, it’s often because my heart isn’t fully invested in the task at hand. When I’m passionate about what I’m doing, my work ethic naturally shines through, as I’m driven to achieve my goals and contribute my best effort.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Dalton Tracee, an artist, designer, and tastemaker based in Austin, Texas. What I find most exciting and special about my work is the passion and emotion I infuse into every piece I create. I’m dedicated to evoking an old-world essence while adding a touch of playfulness, making my art both timeless and nostalgic. My unique style blends masculine and feminine design elements to create a dynamic aesthetic that can add depth and personality to any space.
As for what’s new, I have some exciting developments in the pipeline, including upcoming events, product launches, and further expansion. I can’t wait to share these with you, as they promise to bring even more creativity and excitement to my brand. Stay tuned for what’s on the horizon!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, I believe there are three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact. First and foremost, it’s the courage to start, regardless of where you are in your journey. Just showing up as you are is crucial because people appreciate and love to witness progress and growth. Don’t be afraid to embrace the journey’s early stages, as they are often the most inspiring.
Secondly, I would emphasize the importance of exploring the world. Travel and new experiences offer a unique perspective that can broaden your horizons and inspire your creative journey. Don’t underestimate the power of exposure to different cultures, places, and people.
Lastly, let life flow and trust your intuition. It’s easy to succumb to social pressures, but I’ve found that following your inner guidance and staying true to your passions can lead to the most fulfilling and authentic path. Don’t place excessive pressure on yourself to conform to societal expectations. Embrace your individuality and let it shine through in your journey.
For those who are just starting their journey, my advice is to take these lessons to heart. Embrace the present moment, seek new experiences, and trust your instincts. Your unique path is a work in progress, and it’s the journey itself that holds the most valuable lessons and growth.

My grandmother has always been my greatest source of inspiration. From a young age, she introduced me to the world of art and antiques. Whenever she took on wallpapering projects, I was right there with a blanket and a coloring book at my fingertips. What I admire most about her is her youthful and childlike energy, which seems to keep her forever young. I’ve always cherished that quality in her.
