Meet Kayla Tucker Adams

We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Tucker Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I definitely got my work ethic from my mom, grandmother, aunts, and other strong women in my life. They never made excuses; they just made it happen. That’s a philosophy I live by in my life, and I’ve carried that over into my business and my team. Just like those amazingly strong women in my life, at KTA Media Group, we don’t make excuses. We deliver results.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have worked in the public relations industry for more than 20 years, While I don’t label myself as a “celebrity publicist,” I have helped manage media relations for more celebrities I can count. For the first fifteen years of my career, I served in senior leadership for some of the largest school districts in North Texas, including Wylie ISD and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, as well as senior director of public relations for March of Dimes and T.D. Jakes Ministries. Seven years ago, I took a leap of faith and launched my own firm, KTA Media Group.

KTA Media Group is a full-service public relations and integrated communications agency specializing in media relations, crisis communications, media training, community engagement, marketing and strategic communications. Headquartered in Dallas with clients all over the country, we are proud to be Texas HUB and MBE/WBE/SBE Certified.

Our team of seasoned public relations professionals is experienced in all aspects of communications. With more than 60 years of combined public relations experience, KTA Media Group connects brands to their target audiences to drive engagement and exceed objectives. We leverage traditional communications strategies with new media tactics to attract and engage target audiences and expand their brands.

We work with clients across various industries including faith-based/churches, business and law, entertainment and film, food and beverage, beauty, travel and tourism, technology, community and nonprofit, and education.

We love the work we are blessed to do and deliver results that matter for our clients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The knowledge of business and communications is extremely important in public relations. They particularly go hand-in-hand if you plan to one day own or run an agency. Relationship building is also essential for public relations. These include client relationships, media relationships, business relationships, vendor relationships, community relationships, etc. Having and leveraging the right relationships is vital to success. Lastly, leading with a strategic mindset and executing are key. You have to have all of these and more to succeed in public relations.

Public relations is a very fast-paced field that doesn’t allow for very much trial and error. For those new to the profession, I recommend getting as much experience as possible and learning from someone experienced in the field.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The business challenge I am currently facing is expansion. We do exceptional work which has led to a greater demand for our services all over the country as well as internationally in some cases. With the increased demand, we have expanded our reach by adding experienced, powerhouse public relations professionals to our team. We currently have associates in Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C., to help us best serve our clients. We are always looking for dynamic leaders to join our team.
