We recently connected with Deborah Simon and have shared our conversation below.
Deborah, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My godmother is the best person I know. She has shown me what it means to be kind and generous. She is always kind to everyone, even those that have hurt her. When she cooks, the entire neighborhood eats! I took some friends she’d never met home to St. Thomas for a visit a few years back and they didn’t want for anything – food, shelter, transportation or hugs and kisses!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I love real estate and all things home – home tours, construction, architecture, landscaping, interior decorating and design.
Buyers relocating to Georgia, looking for new construction or 55+ communities are my jam. I’ve worked with buyers in all of these categories so I have the knowledge and experience to facilitate a smooth transaction. After closing I really enjoy staying in touch with my clients and have garnered multiple referrals from these relationships. I’ve personally upsized and downsized, so helping a home owner make either of these choices can be difficult. Ultimately, I love how getting into the right home makes a person feel. Guiding “people” home is my ultimate goal.
My vision is to one day provide affordable housing options by getting involved in the design and building of smaller, but more efficient homes. I’d also like to work with lenders to figure out how to make the home buying process a lot less stressful.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’m uniquely me! I’ve never chased money and I still don’t. There is a lot of money to be made in real estate, but I genuinely care about people in the same way I want them to care about me so I won’t SELL anyone on a home that I don’t feel comfortable in – unless of course it’s an investor who is fixing or flipping the home.
I’m teachable and curious about better ways of doing things. I don’t know everything and don’t pretend to. If I get asked a question and I don’t know the answer, I’ll do everything in my power to find out the answer and as quickly as possible.
The most impactful lesson I’ve learned in life is to trust, but verify! Give people an opportunity to prove they mean well, but watch closely and act quickly if they don’t.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with architects, builders, contractors and other trades in the homebuilding process. I’m really interested in how houses are built and made into homes through choices in layout and finishes.
