Meet Amy Maya

We recently connected with Amy Maya and have shared our conversation below.

Amy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from my family, what I see I have been able to accomplish or overcome over time at a young age, and being open to listening to other people’s stories. I think optimism and the ability to take risks work together because you wouldn’t be so willing to take risks without having the optimism that it will either go well or you will come out of the experience with learning something new. When i find myself in a doubtful situation I think about times I thought I couldn’t but then I did.

When I feel it becomes difficult to get leads as a photographer or find inspiration among the sea of others doing the same I find my optimism in the fact that I have done this for over 5 years and I still have loyal clients that come back because they enjoy working with me for me, and that keeps me optimistic.

When I found myself doubtful of whether I could be successful in my career choice of being a realtor, my family keeps me optimistic by reminding me of everything I have been capable of doing until now and my history of being smart, dedicated and driven to want to deliver my best to myself and those around me.

Listening to other peoples stories, knowing that with every peak the journey of doubt that can come before that is where so much strength can be found and hearing where others got their strength or how they were able to get back up too keeps me optimistic.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am currently 23 years old, married to my husband for 3 years going on 4 living in Baltimore, MD. I am a Realtor, photographer and paralegal at an immigration firm.

I have been doing photography since I was about 15 years old and it really sparks in me what I feel I am naturally good at which is capturing life’s limited moments. I created Amy M Photography where I focus on maternity, newborn, milestone and family photos. Between July of 2021 and around August of 2022 my husband and I opened a photography / media studio named Create the Vision. This was really one of the jumpstarts to where I learned what its like to be a business owner and delved deep into what it meant for me to be an entrepreneur. I learned that being your own boss is alot more about accountability than anything else which is why its so important to surround yourself with the right team and people. When I had the right people around me to help, my husband, my family, my friends, i felt like i had the team that helped me understand accountability can be a collaborative effort and you shouldn’t be ashamed about accepting help.

I got into real estate when I was 21 . I had already stopped going to college and didnt have my photography studio anymore and I thought of what was going to be my next leap. Thats when I thought about what it would be like to take the risk of taking on a serious career at a young age. Taking big leaps like that is something I have always been used to but would be lying if i said i wasnt nervous with every leap. Which goes back to the optimism part because the risks would be nothing without optimism.

Currently im focused on how im going to use my social media platforms and sphere of influence to reach a wider audience and teach them about how it is possible to reach their real estate goals and what that really means for them by puttting it into perspective. Its important for me to inspire people the way i get inspired by others. Whether it be to accomplish their dream of being a home owner to pass or keep that wealth in the family or whether it be to inspire them to be the main character of their life.

By my first year of being licensed which would be july of 2024, i want to have helped at least 10 families buy their dream home, sell to be able to get into something better or have at least 1 of them be confident in knowing they are in the right steps to get to their goal.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience

The ability to look at the bigger picture

The knowledge of knowing where do I find purpose amongst the different parts of my journey

The advice I would have for those early in their journey is to keep going. It sounds cliche but it is really the best advice. Its not about how many times you failed but about how often you were able to get back up. Be unapologetically yourself because no one can do you the way you do you and there is so much strength in that. The ability to look at the bigger picture develops from seeing small moments of doubt or even pitfalls as just part of something bigger. If we choose to only look at what going bad we can never nourish what will do us good.

To improve on finding purpose amongst the different parts of someones journey I would advise to really analyze what are the moments that make you feel at peace and at your fullest regardless of whatever condition outside things are going on. Even if it sounds silly but who or what makes you feel alive even when you know you have laundry to do? Who or what makes you feel life is worth looking forward to when you have dozens of unread emails? Those things are what make a difference in the journey

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When im feeling overwhelmed with everything i have to carry, keep up with or have in mind, I remind myself of why I do it and try to find what I look forward to every day, every week or even every month. it could be something as small as knowing this week im going to go to a new coffee shop before work, or knowing ill be going on a date night with my husband or that ill be meeting with my family on sunday. I think finding what is my safe space amongst being overwhelmed helps me calm down and for me I find it in little moments like doing my makeup in the morning, listening to my favorite song on my way to the office, sharing a glass of wine with my mom or just having a laugh with my family.
