Meet Ariel Tinsey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariel Tinsey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ariel, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with fashion all over again and remembered why I started. As a creative, I must follow the flow of my intuition and allow myself to go against the grain without restrictions or worries about what others may think. It is a form of self-care and nourishment for me. Music is a vast source of keeping my creativity alive. I have a very eclectic musical palette. I find time in the wee hours of the night to play a creative soundtrack, paint, design, or layout my next business plan. The world is asleep, and there are fewer distractions. I also keep my creativity alive by traveling the world and meeting with like-minded creatives, visiting museums, and spending time in nature at home or abroad.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In my career, I’m involved in the exciting world of fashion styling and costume design. I have the privilege of dressing celebrities and talent, not just to make them look good but to help them embrace their creativity, boosting their self-image and confidence under the spotlight. For me, fashion is more than just clothing; it’s a tool for empowerment.

What’s truly important to me is my non-profit venture, The LIV (Love is A Verb) Art Foundation. This initiative is a testament to my commitment to using fashion and art to make a positive impact. Through this foundation, I aim to contribute to the community and inspire others to do the same. My future plans revolve around launching and expanding The LIV Art Foundation, so I can create even more opportunities for children and teens through self-expression, empowerment, fashion and art.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three core qualities that have been the cornerstones of my journey in the fashion industry are creativity, research, and digital proficiency. They have allowed me to excel in the art of fashion styling and build a brand and reputation that stands out in a crowded field.

Creativity has empowered me to transform clothing into expressions of emotion and art, making each outfit a narrative waiting to be told. My imaginative approach has captivated audiences, clients, and collaborators, setting my work apart and driving my success.

My background in public relations, with its emphasis on research and interpersonal skills, has given me the edge in client relationships and branding. It has enabled me to tailor my styling to each client’s unique needs and desires while promoting my work effectively. My ability to build strong relationships, rooted in trust and clear communication, has been instrumental in securing high-profile projects.

The digital age has served as a formidable ally. Leveraging social media tools, personalized email pitches, and extensive online research, I’ve extended my reach and left a lasting imprint on the fashion landscape. In an industry that thrives on visibility and rapid change, these digital tools have allowed me to connect with a global audience and keep my finger on the pulse of the ever-evolving fashion world. These three skills together have woven the fabric of my success in the fashion industry, shaping my career and identity as a fashion stylist and influencer. They continue to drive my journey, propelling me forward as I embrace new challenges and creative opportunities in this exciting and dynamic field.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Ahhh, yes, I often receive last-minute requests to style high-profile clients. Between being a mother of two children (Hi Sevin & Jhett, mommy loves you!), navigating my team, managing shopping budgets, finding complete looks that fit the vision board, and working within a short time frame, it can be very overwhelming at times. My team and I always joke about how we should have a camera following us to show how we make the nearly impossible come to life every time. If clients were to see the hurdles we surpass, they would have a much higher respect for creatives like myself… but that’s another story!

I remind myself that “This is all supposed to be fun” it is life. I’ve learned to find beauty in the journey, and every obstacle has made me wiser in my business and day-to-day life. I also remember why I started, which helped me fall in love with my craft again.

When I am not working on my next project, I take time to sit in nature and ground myself. I’m very intentional with my process to regulate my nervous system when feeling overwhelmed. I visualize, meditate, cook my own food, take it slow, and live in the moment with my children and family. These things all fill my cup and recharge me for the next creative journey.
