We were lucky to catch up with King Benjamin recently and have shared our conversation below.
King , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from not knowing how to give up. I realize a long time ago if I quit I would have to rediscover who I was as a person but I was always the person I wanted to be. I never wanted go down a different path once I discovered writing. If nothing else I’m great writer.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve been a fiction novel writer for over ten years now. I started writing after I prayed for a path to take with my life. Since then I have self-published over 40 novels and written 2 films. I love writing so much because it’s therapeutic for me and just a part of who I am. My goal for next year is to start filming my first project based on one my novels.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important skills I’ve learned are patience, discipline, and branding. Someone admire one said find what you’re good at or want to be good at and improve on it every day. That takes a lot of discipline but I think it’s a recipe for success. Making the most important things a habit In you daily life will almost guarantee positive results unless it’s just not meant to be.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Born Rich by Bob Proctor is my favorite and most helpful book. There was a lot of key takeaways that I speak about in my day to day life still now but the most impactful one were thoughts become thing, self-image will always match your results, and when you’ve done all you can do let go and let God do the rest. No one knows all the things that will happen on your path to success so sometimes all you will have is your faith but that’s all you need.
