Meet Alex Porter

We were lucky to catch up with Alex Porter recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alex, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I feel that this is a tough thing that a lot of people struggle with. Because it hurts to know that there are actual people that wake up and live to hate on people. I find strength in knowing my value and worth which allows me to persist and push pass haters and what they say. I’m convinced that haters are people that look at who they wish they can become. And the fact that they can’t become that person, they have no choice but to hate. Having this strong mindset allows me to persist pass anything that any haters say or do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Alex Porter is a local talent out of Los Angeles California. From being seen in major movies such as You Got Served, Biker Boyz, John Wynn’s Mirror Mirror, African Dream, just to name a few, to also playing Police and Detective roles in Lifetime Movies, to more recently starring in his first major movie role as the lead Dirty Cop in The Jungle Juice Movie, to modeling runway fashion shows, to singing all over several different cities, states, and musical stages, Alex is a multi – talented artist who’s gifts make him one of the most popular triple threat entertainers of our time today. He was raised by a single mother and grandmother that molded and shaped him into the man that you see today. Facing many challenges at a young age in life, Alex tapped into his first gift and love that God had given him as a young child. This gift was playing the drums. At the age of 2 he would develop an ear to play in timing and rhythm that seemed advanced for a 2 year old. So advanced that the teacher noticed and told his mother Shequita Porter that her son has a phenomenal gift. That gift manifested and grew as Alex became one of the most renowned drummers of our time today.

Playing for celebrity gospel and hip hop artist everywhere, it wasn’t until the age of 17 that Alex later was inspired by one of the greatest singers of all time and told by her that he should start taking singing seriously. That singer was the late great Whitney Houston. She and Bobby Brown who Alex also called “Uncle B” put a motivation and inspiration in him like no other. So much so, that Alex started singing more and more and becoming more comfortable with his voice. Growing up in the church like most singers, Alex began to develop and self train his voice. The older he gotten the more his voice developed and he began to take on lead singing roles and experiment with the genre of R & B.

Soon enough Alex found himself singing and writing songs, performing live at different venues, performing in front of sellout crowds, singing National Anthems for some of the top professional sports teams in Los Angeles, and building his audience and fan base to see him as the Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Actor, Model, and Entertainer we all know and see today. The one and only, Alex Porter.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, one of the most powerful things I felt I was told was “The Number 1 thing in this industry you should want to have is a phenomenal reputation”

Because if your reputation is golden, then everyone will want to work with you. And that’s the best gift you can have.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number 1 obstacle I’d probably say I’m currently facing is, knowing who to trust and not trust. And what I’m doing overcome that obstacle is trying a more realistic approach in first taking care of myself. Then being in position to take care of others.
