Meet Anthony Tamayo

We were lucky to catch up with Anthony Tamayo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Anthony with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would say my work ethic came from working at my grandparent’s house on my father’s side. I did everything from laying cement, fixing the roof to trimming their trees. No one visits grandma or grandpa’s house without getting some work in. If you showed up to grandma and grandpa’s house, there was a good chance you would get asked to do something. And who could one say “ No” to grandma and grandpa? I loved working on my grandparent’s house. I learned a lot about working hard for long hours at a very early age. I’m happiest when I’m working hard and using my full focus to harness my skills and complete a passion project.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a stuntman, actor, writer and Indie filmmaker. I started my career in the film industry doing stunt work. I am trained in ancient and modern weaponry from spear, sword and shield to an AR 15. I am also trained in hand to hand combat, High Falls and low falls. I fell easily into acting to gain more roles for other projects. I am now adding director, filmmaker and writer to my repertoire, with great hits like “Kill Exchange: ep1- Slippery Slope” “Marvel Knights” and “Adrenaline.” I’m also a one man film crew creating whole films as stunt coordinator, location manager, script writer, producer, prop master, gaffer, mixer, editor, Director of Photography and special effects. I have found that being a filmmaker and directing a scene you created gets you the most submerged you could ever be in a film. I watch the story develop as I am inside the movie as it’s being created. Its an incredible feeling and a magnificent sight to see.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Patience – Patience shows respect for the art of film and the people you work with. The film industry is permanently set to Rush mode. Finding patience in such chaos benefits the overall workflow.

2. Being Resourceful and adaptable – Being an Indie Filmmaker means coming up with solutions on the spot. Rarely does the script get 100 percent fulfilled the way you envisioned it, it’s up to you to make beneficial decisions and on how to supplement the new idea.

3. Working well under pressure – Time is such a huge adversary in this game. You just don’t seem to ever have enough of it for whatever reason, could be scheduling, a late arrival or an emergency. Time is rarely on your side.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My love, April. Since we met she has been the greatest source of inspiration I have ever had. She saw me as a great man before I ever could. I am incredibly blessed to have her show me the way to a better life. She inspired me to try many different arts and events. She gave me courage to do things I was once scared of. She has been my loyal supporter in all I try and do. She is the reason I love this art. Without her I’m not sure I would have ever found myself. Now she’s given me even more blessings, more inspiration, more courage and more love by giving me a beautiful daughter who I love so much. I love my girls.
