We were lucky to catch up with Vernon Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vernon, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
Writers block doesn’t exist…. Is what I wish I knew when I started music writing and production.
Yes, I spent countless nights in the studio at my moms house, (the catillilsyt to the now Studio Kai) learning my craft,
and yes I had a many trials that tested me beyond any profession or creative outlit had before.
Tune up your skills, rinse and repeat, wax on wax off and you will understand why people use the phrase “writers block”
After perfecting your craft and ONLY when you learn the rules you can start to break them.
I overcome “writers block” by always tryings something new and constantly pursuing new experiences as much as to savor the lessons from past ones.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am based in Chicago, IL and I have always had a special feeling about music.
My current focus is the same as it has been when I decided I wanted to work with the best people in music and entertainment.
and so far, I have done nothing but that.
I founded Studio Kai in 2019 with ; Ryan (runitbackryan) Les Cednick III and Lazy E. We would go on to become a music team, studio and more importantly, a brotherhood. I wish I could put it into words how special our relationships are but these are some of the best guys you will ever meet.
Since then our unique chemistry has opened doors for us and allowed us to grow into what we are today.
Studio Kai is one of the few actual swiss army knives of the music industry!
As grateful as I am for all the accolades we have received in our 5 years together we are extremely proud to have donated over 250 instruments via charity drive events and look forward to doubling that number next year.
(If you are interested in helping keep music alive in illinois email studiokaimusicgroup@gmail.com)
We work out of a fully state of the art music studio in Fox River Grove, IL producing music together that you might just hear on the radio.
Just as much as we pride ourselves in our ability and chemistry as a unit we are still focused on training our interns to be the best in the business based on our methodology and regiments.
I’m excited to be creating a unique and REAL musical ecosystem and thanks to partner Jungle Lords Chicago, we are making history!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Here are three killer lessons that have been absolute game-changers for my journey
Make phone calls! Don’t be afraid of calling someone and make that business happen. Relationships work on communication.
From your community to international.
Build your team and circle of trust. Get involved in your community but plan internationally. I’m telling you as a young one that relisiation turned a light bulb on.
STOP and smell the air.
Even if we had a long night in the studio, and I mean i’m so tired please let go to bed tired. Monroe always walked outside with me to leave and said “hey, stop smell the air. Isn’t it perfect”
and he was right, No need to rush. Live in the moment.
Huge shoutout to my mentor Kenneth Monroe for schooling me in the entertainment game.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am consistently seeking opportunities to establish new partnerships, foster meaningful relationships, and engage with prospective clients.
