Meet Anne Stedman

We were lucky to catch up with Anne Stedman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Anne, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I am my own boss so if I’m not careful, it can lead to a little procrastination every once in a while. In order for me to be as productive as possible, I make short term goals and deadlines for myself every week, and I make sure to hold myself accountable and stick to them! That’s the key. I look at all the projects I have going on and schedule the exact day I need to get each one done by. Then I create habits to push myself forward to make sure they are completed on time. If you work on a project each day for an allotted amount of time, it just makes the execution so much easier. For me what helps is to sit down everyday at the same time so my brain knows it’s time to get this this particular assignment done. It is my daily ritual. Each morning I set a timer to make myself finish what I am doing within that time period. I don’t allow any distractions such as phone calls or emails because that is my time to truly focus on the task at hand.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I excited to tell you about my luxury clothing rental website called Anne Stedman Style (www.annestedmanstyle.com) which is powered by Mod Lux Rent. The list goes on and on. I literally have a new outfit everyday whether it’s for a party, friends coming over, a wedding or sporting event. Every style and size available. This is a fashion win-win people to feel great about yourself everyday.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advise to everyone is to always be open to new endeavors. You never know where it could lead you, who you can meet and what you can learn from the experience. I am a firm believer that things present themselves to you for a reason.

Try learning new skills everyday. The more you learn, the better you are at everything. I can’t tell you how many times learning one skill has helped with another. I’ve have been acting for decades now which really helped me finish my feature length script. My love for fashion helped me create Anne Stedman Style. The list goes on and on.

Show up early and always be prepared!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me is allowing me to be myself. They never stifled my creativity or told me my dreams were unattainable. I would do one act plays in our cul-de-sac when I was little and when the neighbors stared at me like I was crazy, my parents just cheered me on. When I told them I wanted to study Radio, Television & Film they thought it was a great idea and supported me instead of insisting a different major. When I told them I wanted to move to Los Angeles to be an actress, they gave me all the support I needed to move forward. The way they believed in me really gave me the courage to be myself and I am so grateful for that!
