Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Cruz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I feel that my optimism comes from my passion and because I try to choose the things that I do with the idea that it excites me. I know that not always you could get everything that you want, but telling myself and setting my mindset in a way that not everything that I do necessarily has to give me a certain amount of money but instead it brings me joy, fun and knowledge has changed the way my brain works. All of this has helped me bring out optimism from moments in which I even thought there was nothing else I could bring from them.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At this moment in my life, I have been more focused on bringing to life my own projects: little or big, they are what are moving me through life at the moment. I love the audiovisual world, so every project that I do has a little bit of audiovisual and a piece of my soul and sweat hehehe. I love to travel and to live in different countries and get to learn different stuff all the time, meet new people and cultures, and all of this get impregnated on my work. My professional audiovisual story started in Latin America around 10 years, where I always dreamed of working with cameras on TV and/or film. And from that moment I have been trying not to stop and try new ways, new countries and approaches to my career and even life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think three qualities that I have seen in myself during these years are being kind to every single person that crosses my path because you don’t know what this person could be going through and maybe even a smile coming from you could cheer their day up. You CAN NOT imagine how many doors could open and how many people remembers you because you smiled at them.
Curiosity and asking “Why?” all the time, this one is funny because there is people that love this and other that don’t and you encounter all these personalities but at the end I have learnt that asking this short and simple question bring deeper, richer and more interesting answers.
And listening carefully to feedback without making up excuses, even if you think you are right. Listening can give you so many insights about yourself and who and what is around you to shape yourself into a better version.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always eager to collaborate with individuals that bring their ideas to the table and are open to share, discuss and create stuff together. Something that is important for me is the commitment in the project, thinking more about what the result could be than what they gonna receive from it. And ideas out of the box and that seem crazy are the ones I get more attracted to.
