Meet Deepa Subramanian

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deepa Subramanian . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Deepa, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
What a fabulous question you asked me! Well, to be honest, I have always believed that I let things fall into my lap by keeping an open mind and by embracing anything that comes my way except those that my gut says no. And trust me, things do fall into my lap !
As an entrepreneur for the last twenty plus years, the way I approached my business was with a ‘learned optimism’ which is an ability to view the world with a positive outlook. I can tell you without hesitation that in both the businesses that I run in parallel, art and pharmaceuticals, the business always came to me. Of course, one has to set the stage for it and create an environment. Once you embrace this quality, you will never have to chase business or anything for that matter, it will automatically come to you.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Deepa Subramanian is an art curator based in Los Angeles. She launches contemporary artists into the mainstream art world. Her expertise is in producing meticulously curated events as well as establishing media relations and strategic partnerships, creating an extensive network of connections in the art, academic and cultural communities. Her venture in LA “Galerie De’Arts Consultancy” is focussed on ‘curating brands’ as opposed to “curating art”.

I started off as an art gallerist/curator way back in 2009 when I founded Galerie De’Arts, a contemporary art gallery in Bangalore, India. In the last fifteen years of my career in arts, I have curated over 75 significant art shows of contemporary master artists both in India and in the US.
My relocation from India to the US in 2017 enabled me to bring in works of Indian artists to the west and likewise I aspire to take local artists to India. I don’t have a brick & mortar gallery space in the US but I collaborate with like minded people and spaces. At this point, I have moved to a larger role as a consultant in the arts where the focus is on building brand visibility through art whether it is an artist, collector or an institution. We leverage brand led growth and value creation through unique and innovative brand strategy and planned media spread thereby enabling a higher visibility and growth. Our potential clients are artists, collectors, corporates and institutions.
Currently my focus is digital arts and I am looking to bring in digital from across the globe to the US for a show. Artists can send in their submissions to my email with their portfolio.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have said this before and I say it again. When a job is done with passion it has a certain yield. When you build on that yield with the same passion , it becomes a success. So I believe that the most important qualities that were most impactful in my journey were passion, consistency and focus. My advice to budding entrepreneurs would be to have the patience to let things happen. Success is never achieved overnight and if the effort is consistent, success is never far away.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Of course, I have always embraced meaningful collaborations and am constantly looking to collaborate. Our strengths are in the space of media relations, brand building, Public relations et al. If you are a collector, we help you discover, experience and collect art of your personal choice. If you are an artist, we assist in building your brand as an artist. If you are a corporate or an institution , we assist in creating brand visibility through art.
