Meet Linecia Gilmore

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Linecia Gilmore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Linecia, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from my faith in God. My faith gives me hope in the future even when my current situation is not ideal. My faith allows me to see a way out despite what it looks like. Faith is the requirement of optimism. It doesn’t have to be grandiose or overbearing. Some days it is a minor thought or just the fact that the sun is shining. Other days it may be a potential client that inquires about my services or hearing how I have helped someone in the past out of a difficult situation. Optimism is how you choose to see life and all that comes with it. You can either choose defeat or victory. I choose victory.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an attorney and founder of Gilmore Legal. Gilmore Legal is a virtual law practice which specializes in government and business contracts law. I began my practice in 2010 as a way to practice law on my terms without the restrictions and culture of the legal office environment. Women of color continue to be one of the most marginalized groups in the legal profession. As a minority woman, I was able to carve out a niche for myself that allows me to excel in my profession without conforming to the many nuances or biases within the legal profession. Doing law my way has provided me an opportunity to provide services for and interact with influential business owners from all walks of life.

For over a decade, I have assisted countless individuals and business owners with a variety of complex business and government contract matters, including partnership deals, federal teaming arrangements, sponsorship agreements, subcontractor disputes, federal contract modifications, entity formations, and issues involving breach of contract disputes.

Gilmore Legal is the perfect combination of my legal and business experiences. This powerful combination has been a tremendous enhancement to the clients I serve. I am able to learn and understand various business industries while providing legal solutions to help them reach their goals. I am more than just an attorney, I consider myself an all-around legal solutions provider!

As we reach our 13th year of business, I plan to offer various online products and resources that would assist small businesses in this era of social media and online business models.

When I am not providing legal solutions and resources, you can find me traveling the world, reading a good book, working out or spending quality time with my niece.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
As I look back, three qualities and skills that were most impactful in my journey were my ability to think outside the box, my desire to be authentic, and my ability to create solutions. All of these qualities or skills combined helped me to figure out a way to practice law in a way that works best for me. The journey is challenging and there are many peaks and valleys. But, once I decided to operate in faith and not fear, my journey always worked out for the best.

I would advise any new attorney or business owner to take the time and write down their good qualities and what makes them different from anyone else. Once they determine these things, start creating a way to turn their uniqueness into income. Make a decision to invest in yourself and try new things. Once the decision is made, do not quit. You are allowed to slow down, just don’t quit.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is an individual, business owner or business who is in a financial position to invest in their legal needs and currently seeking competent legal advice in the areas of government contracts; general business matters; contract matters; legal entity formations; negotiations; and legal strategies.
