Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yvette Raposo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Yvette , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
As a young adult, I had body image insecurities which at the time, I wasn’t aware where they came from. I just knew that I felt dissatisfaction with how my body looked and how it fit in my clothing. So, I decided to do something about ‘it”. At 17 years old, I joined the local YMCA and took on the task of changing my body by building my muscles. I realized very quickly that the benefits of physical training reached far beyond changing how my body looked but also enhanced how I thought and felt about my body in a positive way. My dedication to exercise which began as a desperate quest in search of happiness actually became the single most important habit that I could acquire to build my confidence and self-esteem.
When I can lift heavy things or hit a heavy bag with confidence, then I feel like I can pretty much do anything!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a performance trainer and speaker, my role in motivating and educating people around fitness and their own personal development can take shape in different ways ranging from 1 on 1 personal training sessions in the gym to speaking in front audiences delivering my keynote speech called “find your fighter within”.
With a background in boxing as a former competitor and now trainer, my specialty is in teaching people how to think like a fighter so they can live their lives feeling like a Champion!
I offer 1 on 1 boxing for fitness sessions, group boxing training for community building, corporate team building sessions and keynote speaking at conferences and events.
What excites me most about the work that I am doing is how well received my message is during this time when people are looking for inspiration in the most raw and real ways. Teaching people how to box and how to understand boxing concepts as a way of not only changing their bodies but also their minds, is the most unique and powerful gift I can give back to the World.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) how to build rapport and nurture relationships – personal skills
2) organizational skills and big picture vision
3) sales and marketing
Folks who are early on, specifically as an entrepreneur, can really benefit from focusing on relationship building not just with potential clients but also with peers. Things to consider and practice could be remembering small details about people which makes them feel special, acknowledged and connected.
Also, start building in systems and habits that help you feel organized early on in your career. Take extra time to write things down, develop to do lists and revisit your big picture vision often enough that it remains clear. I would highly recommend having a goal-setting 4 times per year, once per season, to project and brainstorm what you want to accomplish or would like to try to accomplish in that quarter. Understand that goal setting is not always about achieving the goal but to have something to strive for.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is somebody who is curious and interested in finding out what they are capable of accomplishing in this World, with the right support and mindset! They are frustrated with the limitations they have put on themselves over the years and they understand that change is work, but worth it. They want more out of life and they are ready to take responsibility for their own health and happiness. They want to find that fighter within and reimagine what life could look like when they are open to opportunity and ready to step into their own power.
