Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mackenzie Adkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mackenzie, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity is due to the most High God. He blesses me day in and day out with these gifts. I have the gift of life, of joy, family, love, and everyday things that go unnoticed. I think about this, and then I think about the stuff like my extras, my beautiful family, my music, my car and other things like my friendships and my lows that get me super amped for the highs! I’m blessed beyond measure and singing is my pleasure. If you know me you also know that I’m a giver. I’m going to blow a bag on everybody before myself. Guilty pleasure. I believe it’s enough out here to share. Be a blessing and spread the bread! I get that from my parents and grandparents. It’s like we have a spoiling contest, and the winner is exactly in fact the loser by always putting others before them, essentially losing on purpose. Yes, this leads me to a part of me I’m working on as well.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Macknificent. I am a singer/songwriter based in Henry county, Georgia. I spend most of my time creating music from my soul. I’m a God-fearing woman, so everything I do is out of gratitude to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for my talents in all shapes and forms, and I use them in all areas of my life. Anytime I get the opportunity to do so, I am using my gifts. The majority of my singing is voluntary and I’m independently managed. I like to sing on my own terms so that I can steer away from being conformed to the world’s standards. I answer to God only. He’s the only one who can judge me. I describe my singing as positive, inspirational/gospel. My brand overall is about manifesting my dreams and making them a reality. I find it’s pretty easy if you line your ways up with the Most High. He can and will open up the universe to where it fits you in all types of forms and makes consistent room for your gifts. I don’t do it for money. I don’t do it for fame. I don’t do it for recognition. I sing because it brings peace to my soul. It feels like I’m doing what’s best for me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The top three qualities that were most impactful on my journey thus far would have to be faith, consistency, and courage. It took a lot of all three of these to get where I am today. I remain consistent by posting on my social media every day to grow my audience. I have faith that God can take me to where I want to be, and I had the courage to be myself and to not conform to the world’s standards. I encourage everyone that is reading this to maintain faith throughout everything they do write down what you want. Write down what you envision in your mind and don’t compromise for anything or anyone until you get that reality. Make sure these things align with what you believe in. I believe the Most High has called me to be a singer and wants me to sing on his merits. As long as I keep the courage to be obedient, God will make room for your gifts.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The main obstacle I’m facing right now is finding my place within the music industry. Today, sex, drugs, enhancements and money are the main things that sell. I want no parts in any of it. It took me a while to decide if I still even wanted to pursue music within the last year or so because I find it nearly impossible for me to control how my music will be portrayed. Even if you aim to project a certain sound or a certain message, it’s pretty unrealistic to control how people will take it. You’ll always be misunderstood, and I had a hard time being OK with that. Even if it’s not your intentions, it is still very possible that people can take content that you put out in a way that you didn’t meant for them to. Overtime, I have been able to get to a place where I am content being able to control what I can, just letting the rest be up to God. If I spend my whole life trying to be perfect or represent a perfect example, then I will be driving myself insane. After much time meditating, praying and thinking, I find it best that I can still make music. I made a commitment to spread a clear message of what I aim to convey. I do so by being more intentional with where, when and how I sing as well as what lyrics I choose to write. This helps me feel better about it all. It’s just a dark place to be in sometimes. I don’t too much dwell on the worst case scenario anymore. I am always leaning towards doing my best to be who I am, that is also of course— a human being.
