We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Haze Amaze a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Haze, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and that he made us all different. When I began to understand that my confidence & self-esteem began to develop. Along with lots of practice and studying. Having the knowledge behind what you are doing helps your confidence because you then have facts behind what you are doing may be right or wrong according to who’s judging that. So as a drummer, I am in some instances where my studies and what I think is right, is accepted. And other instances where the musical director or artist may not agree. But having the knowledge behind what I am doing will always give me a boost in confidence. But I think most of all, the experience is what drives your confidence through the roof. For me, after being in many different environments playing live music and being around tons of people, I am now extremely confident when playing new gigs. Knowing that I’ve done the proper preparation (studying & practicing the music) to do a great job on the gig gives me that confidence. My self-esteem simply comes from my understanding of EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Like I said before, we all have our own likes and dislikes and it’s about finding what reaches your heart!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My birth name is Hasmon Abraham II, born in Washington, DC. I am a Christian, husband, father, drummer, content creator, brand ambassador, social influencer, & mentor. I am blessed to travel the world playing stadiums, arenas, & theaters with very iconic artists. These artists include Hip Hop Legend Nas, Fantasia, Leela James, Tweet, & more. Most people know me as Haze Amaze, which was a name given to me by a childhood friend in middle school. Haha! I’ve built my following from 0 to now over 100,000 people worldwide. Content creating is a specialty that I’ve developed over the past few years and it has really taken me far in the world of social media. I was nominated for the 2023 Modern Drummer Hip Hop Drummer of the year from my recent touring with Nas & WuTang Clan. I will be doing drum clinics, more tours, and other wonderful things in the year 2024. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three skills/qualities that I would say to develop will be good character traits, consistency, & adaptability. These are 3 key skills and I’ll explain why. Being adaptable will help you to adjust yourself in situations that present uncomfortable elements. Times in any field that you works in, you will have to work with others in order to get to where you want to be. Having good character traits is important because your talent will get you what you want but your character keeps it. And consistency will keep you moving forward on whatever path you are on.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to partner with New Balance. Since 2012 they have been my all time favorite shoe company. The comfortability and quality of their product is unmatched in my opinion. This would be a good collab not only for my brand but also for NB to have the chance at bringing in a new community of consumers from my world.
