Hi Kim, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I have developed my resilience over the years by being torn down and told, …” you can’t…” The more people told my I couldn’t, the more I pushed myself to prove them wrong. I always knew I had the goods! But I’ve also had to prove myself over and over to each new person added into the equation.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a LGBTQIA+ Stand up Comedian just trying to normalize a diverse lifestyle through comedy. I’m an everyday person, mom, grandma, U.S. Air Force Veteran that also does stand up comedy. I pull from my own life experiences and hope to connect with multiple generations of people from all walks of life. I don’t just want to entertain LGBTQIA+ audiences, but I want to bridge the social gaps among various groups of people. We don’t all have to agree, but it would be super cool, if we just allowed each other to “BE”!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My three most important qualities/skills/or areas of knowledge are: 1) Learn everything you can about multiple subjects, so you can have a conversation with anyone
2) Listen to people when they speak
3) Uplift people instead of tearing them down
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
My biggest challenge at this moment is ageism. At 57, I’m older than many of the newer comedians in my area. So, I have to prove myself worthy on a daily basis. One day it will all come together, because it’s definitely better than it was when I first started six years ago.
