Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Claudia Goldstein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Claudia , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I turned my setback into my purpose and wanted to prove to myself that I could withstand the unforeseen challenges ahead of me by relying on my own abilities to overcome and thrive. After experiencing a life transition that led to such graved vulnerability and attempt to shatter my sense of worth, I knew then that I wanted to help bring hope to other adults and help them see how worthy, valuable, and deserving they are!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a mental health therapist and work with adults who have experienced a life transition that has created anxiety and self-doubt. I find layered under the presenting problem is a struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing tendencies, and unresolved childhood wounds.
I find it rewarding to unveil the rooted issue that contributes to feelings of unworthiness and feeling not enough. Addressing these beliefs and the WHY that drives the tendencies to please and overachieve has led to outcomes that have enhanced careers, relationships and overall quality of life.
It is exciting to see how confident and in touch my clients are with mind, body and spirit after the vulnerable work they have done with me. Doing deep work is hard, but it can be the most rewarding change. I am grateful to be a part of that process.
To reach a larger audience, I offer free education and tips on my instagram page (flourishwithhope). I also have published a self-care journal listed on Amazon. My future plans include creating courses, offering workshops and groups for the areas I specialize in. l hope to supervise future therapists and help in their process of providing care that creates change.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful components that helped me overcome my setback was being vulnerable, learning to tolerate difficult emotions and recognizing my worth.
Being vulnerable and realizing that I could no longer do this difficult journey on my own, led to me putting my walls down and ego aside and seeking mental health therapy.
As a therapist, it almost felt taboo to seek therapy. I was proven wrong. It helped me develop a loving and compassionate relationship with myself and others. I became more forgiving and graceful. I became a more effective therapist because I knew what it felt like to sit on the other side of the couch and let out tears and fears. I learned to learn how to sit with my feelings-that were not very comfortable.
By accepting all these parts of me, I learned to embrace and cultivate a relationship with myself that I was actually proud of. I learned boundaries and how to not let others mood and thoughts effect on who I am. It led to me realizing that all along I was worthy and enough. That was the game changer. From there, came an overflow of abundant opportunities that I no longer sabotaged.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
A life lesson that will always stick with me that my parents taught me was that I do not have the power or control to determine how people will respond to my choices, my boundaries, my needs, etc. This helped curve people-pleasing tendencies and even perfectionism.
It has helped me to recognize that others feelings and reactions are not my burdens to carry. I am not here to appease or please. Just like myself, others can learn tools to help them cope with their reactions. I, like you, am not responsible for the way people think, feel and behave. That is THEIR responsibility.
