Meet Boujee Mustard

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Boujee Mustard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Boujee, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
No matter how hard I try to get rid of it or how much I think it left me, creativity always stays alive and within me. I think when I don’t do anything “arsty” or anything creative for a while it makes me feel like I’m detached or not even equipped to do something to create. But when taking breaks from art to experience life and all the other hardships, the things we experienced and feel is what keeps me being some to create and feel alive.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So I’m a photographer, I love capturing everything but portraits and fashion is my favorite! I love doing portraiture and working with new people, different perspectives and styles from the models I choose always helps to fuel the photoshoot and ideas. Alot of my earlier work I focused on black masculinity and Christianity. Now my work goes into a widespread of topics as I get older, such as the Renaissance, Love, fear and balancing masculinity and femininity.. My brand/artist name is Boujee Mustard which I came up with in college, the word Boujee is how I describe my work and how I want my clients to feel which is elegant and unique. Right now I’m working on “Big&Boujee” which is a mini clothing brand I already released trucker hats so next is hoodies!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Ambition, humility and community are extremely important. Can’t make no connections or spring forward without community and friends by you. But in order stay forward and keep pushing you need to have some type of inner motivation and confidence to keep you grounded and moving.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Honestly as an artist the most impactful thing they ever did was just supporting me. I’ve been let down, done wrong etc. But my parents were always there regardless and always told me the harsh truths.
