Hi Anuj, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
To achieve this modern day American dream— we have no choice but to be optimistic! Our company JPost Studios, is after all a brain child of a couple of immigrants who are fueled by a determination to deliver a unique service in the land of opportunities. Yes, there are numerous hurdles we have to jump over to be able compete with a market of established juggernauts, but rejections and failures are taken as a part of the trade. We love making movies and that love is enough to keep us going, no matter what. JPost Studios is a full service post production studio based in Hollywood and we are soon opening another branch in Pune, India. We’re doing something only a few can even dream of!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
JPost Studios started as a wishful conversation between two flatmates amidst the impending threat of visa expiry. Anuj Jamadagni (Founder and CEO) harboured a long-standing dream to have his own production company (10 points to guess where our name comes from!), and Varun Chounal (Creative Director) was driven to take Hollywood by storm, as a director.
It was serendipitous that these two met, thousands of miles away from home in Los Angeles, where they were studying filmmaking at the Loyola Marymount University. They kick-started a series of collaborations (including one for Grammy nominated artist Kamasi Washington) that would serve as the foundation projects for JPost. With his vast knowledge and industry experience in post production and a passion to build an company—Anuj registered JPost Studios in 2021 in Los Angeles. Along with Varun, he recruited his friends and collaborators—Pankaj Hongekar (Founder and Head Editor), Amogh Kochhar (Head Colorist and Post Production Strategist) and Sanmeet Bamane (Graphics Artist and Assistant Editor) to form a team rife with skill and efficiency. Since then, our growth has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve ventured into collaborations worldwide, and the excitement doesn’t stop there! We released our very first in-house production, “Raada”, and it’s currently making waves at major film festivals like the Nashville Film Festival and Jaipur International Film Festival. We’re not just stopping at one; we’ve got plans to forge more exciting partnerships, we’re expanding operations and setting up a slick new workspace in India next year.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the journey at JPost Studios has been a rollercoaster fuelled by three game-changing factors:
1) Specialisation—Picture this: a team of highly trained creative professionals armed with critical thinking skills, years of relentless hard work and expertise. What you get is a not only a workflow that’s all about efficiency which makes it cost effective, but also a team that is ready to troubleshoot almost anything that comes our way and we have the experience to tackle such situations during tight deadlines.
2) Remote Workflows—The pandemic shook the world, but content didn’t skip a beat, and we played a part in keeping the wheels turning. We dove into R&D, fine-tuning a pipeline that ensured seamless remote workflows and that helps our editors and colorists to get lightning-quick turnarounds. We are always mindful of our clients’ deadlines and with our fast and reliable servers we also ensure their data safety. The result? Collaborations with incredible artists and media companies worldwide that started during the pandemic, and continue to flourish till date.
3) End-To-End Service—JPost Studios is a post production facility foremost, but what sets us apart is our in-depth knowledge of the production process and cycle. From producing stunning cinema and content in-house to guiding productions in their prep stage, we’re with you every step of the way.
For those embarking on their journey: Dive deep into the fundamentals of filmmaking. The process is as technical as it is creative, and putting some time in learning the basics will really take you a long way. In a sea of ever expanding talent pools and the oncoming of AI—a solid understanding of filmmaking fundamentals will be your lifeboat.
