Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jared Rodriguez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jared, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
For me I feel like my self discipline comes from just realizing I only have one life & I want to make my mark while I’m here. As an independent artist we don’t have time to wait for a handout. Nobody is going to do the things that need to be done for you. Life is short & if you want something you have to go get it by any means. It took me a while to come to this realization because often times as artists we feel like our work is so great we deserve all this recognition, when is reality that will come over time. Anything great doesn’t happen over night. We must learn to fall in love with our craft so much so it doesn’t feel like work, it simply feels like we are enjoying our life doing it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I look at myself as a creator, I just love to create in so many different mediums. Whether it may be writing music, engineering, graphic design, clothing design, video editing, painting, or simply just giving direction on a project. My work is special to me because it’s genuine. I’m not creating for validation from the next man, I create because it makes me feel fulfilled. I’m currently working on my third album which will be released by the start of 2024 entitled “Hopeful Hysteria”.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think 3 skills you must have with trying to pursue a career as an artist would be discipline, patience, & knowing self worth. Discipline being the backbone of it all, without discipline you simply wouldn’t get any work done. Patience is important as well because this process of getting to where you want to be can be lengthy. Never compare your journey to others, always believe your time will come. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but it will come. Lastly, Knowing self worth is going to tie is all together. In the beginning no one is going to care about your art. No one is going to believe in you until you do. There’s a certain delusion you have to have for your work in order to be successful. You may sound crazy at first but once you become the next big thing everyone will follow suit.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of improvement would be my mindset. I’ve made my art into a life thing. It’s so important to keep all the outside noise away. I cannot stress this enough, you must treat your artwork as simply a way to enjoy your life. We are constantly growing in our lives so we should constantly grow our art with it.
