We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charlotte Lea a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charlotte, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I come from a family of hard workers, so my strong work ethic was instilled in me from a young age. My parents always taught me the value of a good day’s work and encouraged me to always give my best effort. Additionally, I have always been someone who is driven and goal-oriented, and I believe that hard work is the key to achieving success in whatever I do. Whether it’s in my personal or professional life, I am always striving to be the best that I can be, and I believe that this drive to succeed is what motivates me to work hard every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an interior design photographer. I have a passion for capturing the beauty and essence of professionally designed homes and spaces. To me, there’s nothing more exciting than being able to showcase the hard work and creativity of interior designers through my lens. I feel so lucky to do what I love every day and be able to bring a little bit of that beauty into people’s lives through my photographs. Whether you’re an interior design aficionado or just appreciate a well-designed space, I hope my work can bring a smile to your face and inspire you in your own home.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I can say that there were a few things that really helped shape my journey as an interior design photographer. Firstly, having a keen eye for detail and a passion for design have always been key for me. Secondly, my love of capturing light and creating mood through my images has been essential to my success. Finally, building strong relationships with my clients and consistently delivering high-quality work has helped me establish a great reputation in the industry.
For those who are just starting out in this field, my advice would be to keep developing your eye for design, invest time in learning, and always prioritize building strong relationships with clients. This will not only help you improve your work, but it will also help you establish a successful and rewarding career.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Two books that have had a huge impact on me and my journey as a photographer are “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz and “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. “The Four Agreements” really resonated with me and helped me understand how the internal rules we have for ourselves can hold us back. It’s inspired me to break free from those limitations and make new, empowering agreements with myself. And “The Alchemist” is just such a beautiful reminder to follow your personal legend and be true to yourself. It’s a story that has always inspired me to pursue my passions and continue to grow as a person and as a photographer.
One example from my own journey is when I was first starting out as a photographer. I was always so focused on getting everything just right and pleasing everyone, but “The Four Agreements” taught me to let go of that need for perfection and instead focus on being authentic and true to myself. It’s been a game changer for me both in my personal and professional life. The lessons from these books have definitely shaped the way I approach my work and have helped me grow as an artist.
