Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aaron Lipe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aaron, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In college I took a beginner’s drawing class, and at the end of the semester I was asked to review my work and give myself a grade. I looked at my work in front of me and saw the ghastly self-portrait from my first day next to my final project that seemed cohesive, and I saw how much progress I actually gained in the class. From there I delved into more classes and found my passion for printing. Printing is such a versatile medium that I just found myself engrossed in it. Whether it was doing a project for a friend’s band or coming up with a new process. It’s also really gratifying to teach others this form of art and see the gears turning when I’m showing them the process.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
After being in my field for 14 years, I am finally ready to start something new in my small town of Joplin, Missouri. Pretty Flowers Printing produces hand-crafted products for customers that would want anything from fine art prints to coasters and printed tees to wedding invitations. I also have done a live print showcase where I have printed shirts in front of the costumer on demand. I am excited to learn more about my art form and would love any challenge a customer would bring me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Perception is truly an insight. Taking in the senses to see, feel, and envision what is around you and what could come next. What a statement could mean. How an interpretation could impact a group or an individual. Using that insight to communicate and produce artwork from an interpretation of their idea. All of these culminate into the world that we interact with and influence.
Patience is truly one of the most important skills a printer could learn. The process in itself requires many hours of preparation before the printing process even starts. Often times if a simple breath isn’t taken just to stand back and analyze the situation mistakes can be made. Time is such a precious thing and if we go through it rushing only to save time then what have we saved it for?
People that I have met along the way. I have the best family and friends anyone could ask for. I couldn’t have made it this far without them. All of us making this journey together through life and the little things that are felt along the way like reciprocated love.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking for artists that need an outlet to express their ideas and projects and I wish to be the conduit. Too many times have I had an idea and either kept it in and squandered it or lied to myself that I will get around to it. I hope to bring your ideas to life.
