We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Domonique Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Domonique, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis helped to develop my optimism. The diagnosis allowed me to see life, opportunities, circumstances, and people differently.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an Educational Strategist and Candidate for Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 Board of Education. I am also very proud to be a mom of all boys, a community connector, and the Community Engagement Chair for The National MS Society Georgia.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Optimism: Being optimistic has allowed me to be positive and purposeful in every situation. While others are worrying, I am often finding the silver lining in everything.
Engagement: Being engaged with others in community has been a significant experience. Talking, sharing, and enjoying others has become a part of my life. It encompasses all that I am.
Education; Being educated has become a daily requirement. Deliberately stretching my mind and become a must. I am a life long learner. The world has become my classroom. Each experience has been my teacher.
For those who are early in their journey of optimism. My advice would be to celebrate each circumstance. Remember that each aspect of your journey opens up a new discovery of something. Enjoy the process and the priceless message in each moment.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As a candidate for Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 Board of Education and a Multiple Sclerosis warrior; I am looking to collaborate with other people who have disabilities or support candidates with disabilities and who desire to support others who are breaking boundaries in spite of their diagnosis. I believe that representation matters. It’s my goal to inspire others to live beyond their limits. To support others who give humanity the empowerment and education to excel.
