Meet Magical Katrina Kroetch

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Magical Katrina Kroetch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Magical Katrina , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Dealing with haters and naysayers is tough, but it’s part of the game when you’re a magician. The key for me is to really believe in myself and my magic. I always remind myself why I love this art so much, and it helps me brush off the negative vibes.

I try to focus on the good stuff. There’s always going to be someone who’s not into what you do, but for every one of them, there’s a bunch of people who totally get it and love it. Their positive energy keeps me going.

It’s also about sorting out the hate from the helpful criticism. I’m all for learning and growing from the feedback that actually makes sense. Plus, having my squad – friends, family, and other magicians who get what I’m doing – is a game-changer. They’re my go-to when things get rocky.

Keeping things fresh and exciting with my magic also helps a lot. It’s like, the more I innovate, the less I worry about the haters. Remembering the good moments, like making someone smile or inspiring someone, also reminds me why I’m doing all of this.

Building a thick skin has been a big part of my journey. Getting that not everyone’s negativity is about me helps a lot. And finally, sticking to what I believe in, my vision for my magic, and not changing it just because some people don’t get it, keeps me true to myself and my art. So yeah, that’s how I keep pushing forward, doing what I love, no matter what others might throw my way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
So, I’m a magician based in Los Angeles, and my whole deal is about bringing a fresh, fun spin to the world of magic. What’s really cool about what I do is how I blend traditional magic tricks with this quirky, modern twist. It’s not just about pulling rabbits out of hats; it’s about creating this whole magical experience that’s interactive, immersive, and, most importantly, super fun.

One of the things that makes my approach to magic special is how I incorporate storytelling and a bit of comedy into my performances. It’s like, I’m not just performing tricks; I’m taking the audience on a magical journey. Whether it’s a corporate event, a private party, or a public show, I aim to make each performance unique and memorable.

Now, as a woman in the magic scene, which has been mostly male-dominated, I’m all about breaking those stereotypes and showing that magic is for everyone. It’s about proving that creativity and skill know no gender. I really hope my work inspires more women and girls to dive into magic and make it their own.

Something new and exciting I’m working on is incorporating more technology into my performances. Think augmented reality and cool visual effects that take the magic to another level. It’s all about staying ahead of the curve and keeping things fresh.

As for what’s coming up, I’ve got a few public shows lined up that I’m super stoked about. It’s a chance for people to see a different side of magic, one that’s modern, relatable, and just a blast to watch. So, yeah, that’s a bit about me and my magic world. It’s all about making people smile, laugh, and feel that sense of wonder we all had as kids.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey as a magician, there are three key qualities that have really shaped my path:

Creativity has been a cornerstone. In magic, it’s not just about inventing new tricks; it’s about how you present them, weave stories around them, and engage with your audience. I’ve learned to always look at things from new perspectives and to ask myself how I can bring a unique twist to my performances.

Perseverance has been just as important. There have definitely been challenging times, like when gigs fell through or a new trick seemed impossible to master. But sticking through those tough moments and persisting was crucial for my growth.

People skills have played a huge role too. Magic is as much about connecting with your audience as it is about the tricks themselves. Being able to read the room, communicate effectively, and build a connection with the audience makes a world of difference.

For those starting out in this field, my advice is to really focus on these areas. Nurture your creative thinking, don’t get disheartened by setbacks, and always remember the importance of connecting with people. Practice active listening and empathy, and don’t shy away from networking and learning from others. Stay curious, keep pushing yourself, and most importantly, enjoy the journey – that’s what magic is all about!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
In the past year, my biggest area of growth has been in integrating more technology into my magic business . It’s been a game-changer in terms of having time to work on the magic and less on then his Iness -creating more immersive and visually stunning performances. Adapting to new tech when working with clients , learning how to make my systems more efficient with buisness has been incredibly rewarding.

Overcoming focus issues, especially in a field as demanding as magic, has been a journey. I’ve found that setting clear, manageable goals for each day helps a lot. Breaking down larger tasks into smaller, achievable steps keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Also, setting aside specific times for deep, focused work, away from distractions, has been crucial. It’s about quality, not just quantity, of work.

Finding a work-life balance as an entrepreneur is always a challenge, but I’ve learned it’s about setting boundaries and being disciplined with my time. I prioritize tasks and make sure to schedule in downtime just like any other appointment. This downtime is sacred – it’s when I recharge, which is essential for creativity and mental health. I’ve also learned to delegate tasks when necessary. It’s important to recognize that you can’t do everything alone, and asking for help or collaborating can be incredibly beneficial. I really love using www.upwork.com for tasks.

In summary, embracing new technologies, enhancing focus with structured routines, and prioritizing a healthy work-life balance have been key to my growth and success in the past year.
