Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melissa Eannuzzo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Hands down, my mother. My mother was a single parent and raised my brother and I pretty much by herself. I watched her work three jobs just to keep us afloat. We grew up in Maynard, MA and while we most certainly were not rich, we never wanted for anything. We constantly watched our friends get more than us but we didn’t care. We were happy because my mother would do whatever she could to provide for us. We may have had to eat the same meals a few days in a row but we didn’t care. She taught me that with hard work, even a young mother of two could provide for her family in ways many two parent families can not.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been a radio personality in Boston for over 25 years. It has been my job to entertain and wake up the city of Boston and make sure I can help put smiles on their faces. Currently, you can hear The Getup Crew on Hot 96.9FM in Boston from 6am-10am where we give away prizes, report the news and gossip of the day and air a segment called The Second Date Update where we help people who’ve been “ghosted” find their love interests. We have been spending some extra time working on our social media presence as of late, installing cameras in the studio and releasing short clips on our IG page: @getupcrew969. The most exciting part of my job is when I meet our listeners in public, and they tell me how their day was made just by us making them laugh. It happens often and I never take this for granted, even 25 years later.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Working hard! Never underestimate the power of hard work. I was only given an opportunity because I showed up early, stayed late and never complained, even when I was working for free.
The advice I would give is to always go above and beyond what is asked of you. You may not see results or reap rewards right away, but patience and consistency is key.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The obstacle and challenge currently facing us as a show is the amount of competition that has developed over the years. Instead of just competing with other radio morning shows, we also have satellite, podcasting, audio books and more that we are forced to have to grab people’s attention away from. We have to constantly stay on top of the latest trends and continue to beef up our social media presence in ways we never had to before.
