Meet Hennessy Williams

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hennessy Williams . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Hennessy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
At first I thought my work ethic was based on my individual desire to provide myself with a better standard of living. However, as I get older I realize my parents influenced me in that regard with their own personal pursuits. Seeing them make strides, that in the totality of life, illustrated their ability overcome through sheer will.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a professional standup comedian. I’ve opened for some of the biggest names in comedy. I’ve headlined my own shows. I work as a professional entertainer for several corporate clients. I’m addition to comedy, I’ve acted in television, commercial, and films. I’m a songwriter whose music has been featured in film.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Networking is a crucial skill. If you don’t know how to network, yesterday was a great time to learn. Today is second best. Direction taking is another skill. The best athletes, actors, and acupuncturists (and any career you can think of) have something in common. They’re very coachable. They’re able to take constructive information and apply to the best of their ability the tenets of that instruction to the betterment of their craft.
The skill of being able to see talent in others. To me, this is a skill that is often overlooked because we all tend to focus so inwardly that we forget the external components to success. The ability to team build is crucial when it comes to establishing anything that you’d consider “bigger than yourself”. Being able to see a talent in someone else gives you an opportunity to perhaps fill a role that is missing from your own game changing success.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They told me life comes with a lot of chances but those chances only matter if you use them. They were mostly talking about taking extra credit to push my 87% B average in class to push it to a 93% A.

I took it to mean never let a chance go by that I know feels big in my heart and gut. If your organs are telling you “this feels like a big deal” chances are they are not, but never taking those chances is a guarantee that they’ll never be a big deal.
