We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tina F. Foy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tina , we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is a must for me. I learned the importance of self-care the hard way, when I lost myself trying to take care of everyone else. I was constantly exhausted and overwhelmed, unable to focus or find joy in each day. I didn’t understand why until I realized – I wasn’t taking care of myself.
Now, self-care is my lifeline. I start each morning with 15 minutes of “me time” after getting the kids and my husband off to start their day. I relax with breakfast and a hot cup of coffee or chai tea, looking outside and reciting a simple affirmation. This little routine helps center and ground me for the day ahead.
When I can, I indulge in an hour or more of self-care. This includes pampering myself with a facial, luxuriating in a bubble bath with a glass of wine, and reading a novel just for pleasure. Taking this time refreshes me mentally, emotionally, and physically.
On days when I’m especially depleted, I devote half a day or more to restoring myself through self-care. I begin with breakfast and coffee, then draw a home spa experience with relaxing beauty treatments. I dress up and go out to lunch at my favorite cafe, browse through shops, or work on a creative hobby – whatever will make my heart sing.
No matter how long I spend focused just on myself, I always emerge feeling renewed and reset, ready to be fully present and engaged. The time I devote to self-care allows me to be the best version of myself, focused and able to handle anything. It has truly helped me through difficult times and keeps me balanced each day. I now know I can’t properly care for my family unless I first care for myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Tina F. Foy, and I have an inspiring story to share. As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, I strive to spread beauty, confidence, and compassion.
It all began when I launched Bella by Tina Foy, a luxury skincare and cosmetics brand honoring my late sister Bella. Our essential creams, cleansers, and beard oils provide simple solutions for women and men struggling with skin issues. Since 2020, we’ve grown from a small skincare line into a full-scale beauty brand, adding high-quality makeup to help women put their best face forward.
Beyond my business, I’m dedicated to empowering women to embrace their inner and outer beauty. As creator and host of the Beauty In Me with Tina show, I cover self-love, confidence, and self-expression – offering tips to enhance natural beauty in body, mind and spirit. I’m thrilled to announce our upcoming virtual summits in 2024, where we’ll dive deep into beauty secrets together!
Finally, as the current Mrs. Imperial Nations Pageant Queen, I advocate for autistic children and families, a cause dear to my heart as an autism mom. The pageant provides a platform to promote inclusion, understanding, and inner beauty. My directors and sister queens are amazing – we bond through our charity work and core values.
So in my roles as entrepreneur, empowerer and advocate, I spread the message: beauty lies within us all! It’s my purpose and passion to help women and families live beautifully from the inside out. If my story resonates with you, let’s connect! I believe that together, we can make the world a little more beautiful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the three qualities that had the most impact were being observant, creative, and humble.
Observant – I made it a point to really pay attention to my surroundings and the people around me. I listened intently, watched carefully, and absorbed as much as I could. This allowed me to gain insights and perspectives that informed my work and helped me improve.
Creative – I constantly tried to think outside the box and approach problems or situations from new angles. I wasn’t afraid to try something unorthodox or follow an unexpected path. Nurturing my creativity opened up possibilities and led to innovative solutions.
Humble – No matter how much success I achieved, I never became overconfident. I knew there was always more to learn. Staying humble helped me recognize opportunities for growth and improvement. It also allowed me to build strong connections by valuing others.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to remember that every day provides lessons to help you develop these crucial qualities. Maintain an open and curious mindset. Observe and listen closely to the world around you. Flex your creative muscles by thinking differently. Stay humble enough to keep growing. Don’t get discouraged if progress feels slow. Keep putting in the effort and you will improve bit by bit. Trust the process, keep learning, and stay dedicated to developing your skills. Doing this will serve you extremely well down the road.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A book that has played a major role in my personal development is “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. This book was truly transformational for me. It fundamentally changed the way I think about myself and the world. There were several invaluable insights in this book that have stuck with me.
One of the most impactful concepts was “The Upper Limit Problem.” This refers to our tendency to sabotage ourselves when we start to experience too much success or happiness. We are comfortable with a certain level of struggle or mediocrity, so when we surpass that threshold, we will unconsciously do something to undermine our progress and bring us back down to a more familiar level of suffering. For example, you may get a big promotion at work but then pick a fight with your spouse that evening for no good reason. Recognizing this pattern in myself has helped me to catch myself when I start to engage in self-sabotaging behaviors and make a conscious effort to continue progressing rather than slipping back into old habits.
Another powerful chapter was “Living in Your Zone of Genius.” This means identifying the activities that you are uniquely gifted at and that energize you, and then organizing your life so you can spend as much time as possible engaged in those pursuits. When you are expressing your core genius, you feel most fully alive and able to thrive in both your relationships and your level of abundance. Discovering and nurturing my zone of genius has allowed me to achieve a greater sense of purpose and prosperity.
Overall, “The Big Leap” was a pivotal book in my journey of personal growth. Its wisdom has stayed with me, and I continue to revisit it when I feel stuck or ready to make my next leap to a higher level of success and fulfillment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to better understand themselves and reach their full potential.
