Meet Gina Aleman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gina Aleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Gina, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I regularly carve out time to spend alone or with my family and friends. While doula work can be unpredictable, I balance my availability with my strict off-call time, during which I am not waiting on a mother and baby to begin labor.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
From a global perspective, I connect with and provide parents the resources they need to make their birthing years better than they imagined. On a smaller scale, I provide parents with birth education, accompany client’s to their births, and care for them during the vulnerable postpartum season.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Time management, determination, and empathy. Working as a doula is soul-led but you must guard your time and energy so that you can be fully charged when supporting families!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I’m extremely systems-oriented so I can get overwhelmed by the steps in a process (for example, creating a new course or material for my clients). Making very structured lists helps with my overwhelm! When I can see all of the work needed and how long each step will take me, I am able to find calm and relax.
