Meet Raioni Madison

We recently connected with Raioni Madison and have shared our conversation below.

Raioni , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Well, let’s just say I’ve had my fair share of practice! Juggling a young family, personal challenges, and leading a nonprofit can be a recipe for chaos, but I’ve learned to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Becoming a mother young forced me to grow up fast and develop a fierce sense of responsibility. My family’s struggles taught me empathy and compassion, and my mental health journey taught me the importance of resilience and self-acceptance. Every challenge I’ve overcome has made me stronger and more determined to succeed. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without these experiences, even though I wouldn’t wish them on anyone!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I still remember walking the halls of my Atlanta-based high school in 2007, dreaming big and soaking up every ounce of inspiration I could find in my teachers and mentors. Little did I know, those early experiences would shape my path and lead me to where I am today: founder and Executive Director of 3D Girls, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to empowering young girls across the metro-Atlanta area.

My journey from an educator (2012-2018) to a Social Entrepreneur wasn’t just a career switch; it was a commitment to giving back to the community that nurtured me. Seeing the impact of my work firsthand, I knew I had to do more. 3D Girls, Inc. became my way of creating a space where girls could not just learn, but thrive.

The organization’s growth has been incredible, reaching over 300+ students annually through programs like Girls Link Up, a S.T.E.A.M.-based mentoring program, and Mom Circles, which empowers mothers with vital resources and support. We’ve also been recognized for our work, receiving accolades like the City of Atlanta’s Mayor, Andre Dickens ATL Year of the Youth Campaign and the Society for Science’s STEM Action Grantee.

But beyond awards, the true measure of success lies in the smiles on the faces of the girls we serve. Whether it’s providing emergency assistance to families in need, offering holiday cheer through our toy drive, or building a brighter future with the Rose House project, each initiative is a testament to our unwavering commitment to empowering girls and strengthening families.

My journey with 3D Girls, Inc. is a story deeply woven into the fabric of the City of Atlanta. It’s a story of resilience, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the potential of each and every girl. It’s also a story about paying it forward, ensuring that future generations of girls in Atlanta, GA have the same opportunities that shaped me.

Sharing my story isn’t just about personal accomplishment; it’s about inspiring others to believe in the power of community and the transformative impact we can have on the lives of young people. I invite you to join me on this journey of empowerment and witness firsthand the incredible things that happen when we invest in the future of our girls.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Building a strong support system is like wearing a superhero cape, except way more comfortable. My mentors, colleagues, and the incredible families we serve are my fuel, my cheerleaders, and my partners in crime. We lift each other up, celebrate each other’s successes, and pick each other up when we stumble. Remember, you’re not in this alone!

For those navigating their journeys, here’s my advice:
– Embrace the roller coaster ride. It’s not always smooth sailing, but each bump builds resilience and teaches you valuable lessons.
– Don’t be afraid to ask for help. No one has all the answers, so don’t be afraid to tap into your network and build a support system that’s got your back.
– Never stop learning. Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. Remember, every mistake is a chance to learn and grow.
– Find your tribe. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, challenge you, and believe in you. They’ll be your biggest advocates and your source of strength.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Tabitha Brown’s book, Feeding the Soul, has been a beacon of light and inspiration most recently on my journey. Her words resonated with me on a deep level, prompting reflection and positive change. One common theme in the book was Strengthening Self-Love and Acceptance. I could identify with the vulnerable stories about her own struggles and triumphs. It helped me embrace my imperfections and love myself unconditionally. Her message of self-acceptance resonated deeply, urging me to let go of self-doubt and step into my power. Another emerging theme in the book was on finding purpose and living authentically. Tabitha’s passion for her life and her mission to spread love and kindness inspired me to find my own purpose and live authentically. Her words pushed me to rediscover my values and passions, leading me towards a more fulfilling life.
