We were lucky to catch up with Sandra Chahayed recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandra , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work Ethic from my Dad Joseph. He is 75 years old and wakes up before sunrise to be at work. He doesn’t come home until the evening. No matter what life throws at him he is always ready to start the work day. I learned hard work and dedication to your passion is what makes a good work Ethic. I have learned so much about what being a successful business owner is from him. Showing compassion for others is the biggest lesson he taught me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a florist in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. Been my passion for 18 years. Arranging flowers, decorating events and bringing smiles to people is what makes Floral Expression what it is. We specialize in everyday flowers to large scale events. The best way to describe Floral Expression is passionate with a purpose. The purpose is adding beauty, love and happiness to any occasion and event.
The next step for Floral Expression By Sandra is to expand and keep growing. What out for bigger and greater things to come.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Starting out I didn’t know anything about Flowers. One quality was my willingness to want to learn more. A skill I had was I took watercolor classes. So I had the passion already to create beautiful things.
My advice to someone who is just starting on their business or career journey. Don’t be afraid push yourself as far as you can. Set a goal and try to achieve beyond that. Don’t be scared of to fall just get back up and keep going.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents came to this country with nothing trying to build a better life. They worked hard to reach to where they are. The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me that nothing in life comes easy. You have to work hard for what you have and want. The life lessons they teach me everyday is what is most impactful and what drives me to succeed.
