Meet Lynsie Outlaw

We were lucky to catch up with Lynsie Outlaw recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lynsie, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
It’s a work in progress and something I didn’t start to be self aware of until my late 20’s. I had so much confidence in myself when I was a teenager and then I entered to somewhat of the real world and lost my spark. I think I realized how harsh the world can be. Becoming a mother has completely changed me and one of those things is my confidence. I have realized how much my daughter picks up from me. She sees and hears the way I talk about myself and how I carry myself. When I start to have negative thoughts I think about how I’d want her to talk to herself or think about herself. You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay! That’s been the hardest thing to overcome as a people pleaser. But instead of focusing on why someone doesn’t like me I focused on what I have to offer. God made me who I am, gave me the passions I have, etc. So now I embrace every part of myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the owner and creator behind Real Good Whip. We are a small batch tallow business that specializes in nontoxic skin care products. Everything we use in our products is natural and our whip is an all purpose type of moisturizer you can use for dry skin, blemishes, anti aging, cuts, rashes, bites, etc. Tallow is a nutrient dense ingredient which is actually suet from a cow. It’s identical to our natural skin which is why it is so nourishing for our skin. We are an online business but just got accepted as a fill in vendor for the New Braunfels Farmers Market. I started RGW because I needed something I could trust to use on my baby’s skin, and I was also looking for something I could use that didn’t require 7 different steps and several products on the counter.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Knowing how to talk to people and relate to them. Relationships and appreciation are huge in continuing to grow your business.

Work ethic. Do the work! Create posts, implant yourself in your local community. Do what you gotta do to get your name out there and let the product speak for itself.

Willingness to learn. Embrace the mistakes and learn from them. Reach out to other small businesses owners.

Best advice would be to know your audience, know they type of people you want to attract to your product/service. Read the book good to great.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Time management as a mom of two and a husband who works very long hours. That has definitely been the hardest part. A year and a half later since starting RGW and I am just now starting to find a grove of work life balance. Remembering that I am a mom and wife first is super important.
