Meet Sabrina Culver

We recently connected with Sabrina Culver and have shared our conversation below.

Sabrina, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I am glad that you ask this because this is something I have had to become acutely aware of as the mother of teenagers, most significantly my daughter. Over the years I had developed a system of using self effacing humor , putting myself down in a funny way and acting a bit like a bubble head in an effort to be accepted by others and fit in . The first time I witnessed my daughter attempting to do the same I realized I had to stop . I serve as an example to my children . I immediately talked to her about the importance of emphasizing our strengths and not being afraid to shine .Now I try to think first of how I would want my daughter to speak about herself and conduct herself This adjustment has been life changing

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been performing for as long as I can remember , opting for dressing rooms made out of blocks instead of forts and writing , starring and directing plays in my neighborhood as a young child begging my parents to take me to an agent in NYC at ten when I landed my first commercial for AIM toothpaste which led to more than 100 more roles in commercials , after school tv specials , soap operas and studying theatre at Emerson College in Boston . I have appeared more recently as one of the female leads in the critically acclaimed post apocalyptic zombie series Feel the Dead shot in Sicily opposite William McNamara and Estella Warren and The Window (Fuji TV /ZDF productions ) And 75 other films and series including NYPD Blue , All My Children , Removed and many others .
I will be working in Morocco on writer Dee Lasure’s beautiful romantic film Last Chance along with a stellar cast which will be the first sustainable film produced in Morocco . I have a very strong connection to making the world a better place through sustainability and have recently been awarded with an honorary title of ambassador to film for The Netherlands in the Sahara desert ( Assa , Morocco)
And I hold both United States and Netherlands passports.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance through adversity, determination during lean times or times when i encountered a great deal of rejection , and to not be afraid to ask for help . I have been blessed with a very supportive family in the form of my parents and siblings who showed me how to believe in myself and made me feel I was capable of almost anything that I would set my intentions towards and my children who keep me grounded during over the top exciting times and the very challenging difficult times . I try to share with my kids that success varies from person to person and I try not to define myself in terms of another persons level or definition of success

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I have been diagnosed as an adult with Attention Deficit Disorder, commonly referred to as ADD . In fact this was a relief for me as it helped me to forgive myself and to develop tools to overcome obstacles that I had had in the past that prevented me from achieving my goals . Now I have learned how to take a step back when I feel overwhelmed and take a deep breath , at times reach out for support and I make a lot of lists these days to stay focused
