Meet Trisha Kwan Professional Makeup & Brow Artist

We were lucky to catch up with Trisha Kwan Professional Makeup & Brow Artist recently and have shared our conversation below.

Trisha Kwan, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Ever since I was in high school, I taught myself to see the good in every situation. I know not everything in life is perfect, but I know there is always a good or bad to come in every situation. I always chose to look forward to what good will come. Even when times get rough, it’s not always easy and I tend to steer towards the bad, but I then realize everything I have overcame and that helped me see that there will be something great coming.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have been a professional makeup & brow artist for over 20 years. I specialized in fashion makeup, beauty makeup, wedding makeup and makeup for special events. I also specialize in Microblading and brow shaping. I love creating a shape that naturally highlights each individual’s face perfectly. I have been featured in past VoyageLA magazine articles, Latina magazine, Kidney magazine, and others.
I have also currently added health coaching to my services. I guide clients through a program that helps them live their optimal best life with healthier habits.
I am excited to build a community of people who would love to be involved in our movement of helping everyone get happy and healthy one person at a time.
I am pleased to be able to make people feel beautiful not only on the outside, but for their inside as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First off, I want to say that everyone’s journey is different. I learned to embrace my own journey by not comparing myself to others. However, I do look up to some mentors that help inspire me to become a better entrepreneur and person. I’m thankful for my parents and husband who have supported me throughout all my struggles. They have always encouraged me to keep strong, be patient and consistent.

The biggest skill that I think everyone should acquire is to be kind and patient with people. Everyone has different personalities and different needs, so we need to be able to listen and understand where they are coming from.

I have also worked a lot on my own personal development. The best thing you can do for yourself, is to work on you (your heath, mind and body) and your people skills. Read personal development books that will help you grow as a person, so that you may stand out in your business.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents stuck by me and my crazy ideas. They always encouraged me through my whole journey. When I got out of high school, they didn’t push me to go to college. They thought that I should decide for myself what I wanted to be. It took me a while to realize what I wanted to do. I wasn’t like my friends and family who knew what college or what career field they wanted to be in. I thought I wanted to work in an office environment at a 9 to 5 job doing graphic designing. Later I realized, that my creativity wasn’t being expressed. I came across a book from Kevyn Aucoin at a book store, and I instantly fell in love with hope this makeup artist could transform one person to so many looks. I decided from that point that I wanted to become a makeup artist. I was afraid it wouldn’t pay well, but later found out it paid more than I did working in an office.

Later on in life, I realized I was always passionate about people and brows. I started specializing in eye brow shaping and opened up my own studio. I do Microblading and makeup artistry at my own studio, My parents are so proud of me for becoming an entrepreneur because my parents were entrepreneurs and they always encouraged me to do what I love and make it my own. And for that, I am so thankful they never pushed me to go to college or to any career they thought would be best for me.
