Meet Mariam Kamara

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mariam Kamara. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mariam, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
As a passionate resin artist with three years of experience and a dedicated Clinical Advisor for an education-based company during the day, my journey is a harmonious blend of artistic creativity and professional expertise. Reflecting on my experiences, I acknowledge the common thread of imposter syndrome that wove through both realms, challenging my sense of belonging in the worlds of art and education.

In the early days, the nagging doubt echoed: Did I truly belong among the talented artists in the resin art community and the accomplished professionals in education? The diversity of styles and skills displayed by fellow artists and colleagues left me grappling with self-doubt, questioning if my art could stand out amidst the stunning pieces flooding social media and gallery walls, and if my contributions in education were truly impactful.

Overcoming imposter syndrome became a journey of self-discovery that applied to both my roles. Here are the steps I took to quiet the doubt and let both my resin art and professional expertise shine:

1. Embracing the Learning Curve:

Recognizing that every artist, no matter how accomplished, once stood where I did, learning the basics and experimenting with the medium, I accepted that growth comes with time. Whether exploring new techniques in resin art or navigating the complexities of educational advising, I understood that each step was a part of my evolving journey.

2. Celebrating Progress, Not Perfection:

Shifting the focus from perceived shortcomings, I began celebrating milestones in both my artistic and professional endeavors. Each successful art piece and every task in education became a marker of progress and development, emphasizing the joy in the process rather than fixating on an unattainable standard of perfection.

3. Recognizing Uniqueness:

Imposter syndrome often stems from comparisons. In both fields, I learned to embrace my unique perspective. As a resin artist, my individual style became my signature, and as a Clinical Advisor, I found strength in offering tailored solutions. Recognizing that my unique approach is a valuable contribution allowed me to break free from the constraints of comparison.

Conclusion:

Whether creating resin art or advising on education strategies during the day, the journey is marked by taking that first step. The mindset, a common thread in both my artistic and professional pursuits, propels me forward. I hold the belief that, just as in my art, my career path will lead to new heights. I encourage everyone to dream big—it begins with your mindset,

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
