Meet Raquel Mastrangelo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raquel Mastrangelo . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Raquel , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I honestly don’t know if anyone ever gets fully over imposter syndrome. I think it’s kind of like being in a bad mood or having a negative outlook on the situation. Imposter syndrome encompass feelings of doubt, fear and uncertainty. Everyone has aspects of their career that they feel confident and comfortable with doing but when a new client or a unique project comes along there is always a hint of imposter syndrome in the back of my mind. Keeping my portfolio up to date and hearing feedback and testimonials from clients help to bring me out of the imposter syndrome mood. I just look at the years of work accomplished and looking at these assets like having a little pep-talk for myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
MY MOXIE STUDIO is a source for creative brand needs based in Los Angeles, California. As a digital content creator, I love collaborating with different brands to create photo and video content. I also offer brand identity services for businesses such as logo design, color palettes, mood boards and social media templates. It brings me joy to transform a vision to a finished product. I have worked with a wide range of industries including, fashion, beauty, skin care, wellness, dietary supplements as well as dental services.

I earned my B.A. in Family & Consumer Science, Fashion Merchandising from California State University Long Beach so naturally I really enjoy shopping and styling! My brand MOXIE FROM ROXIE was originally created as a way to resell items from my own fashion archives and vintage finds. This grew into a larger online boutique integrated with social media and expanded beyond reselling items from my personal closet. I quickly gained a following with repeat customers that requested styling and shopping suggestions so I expanded my inventory to offer more items. As we all know technology is always evolving and in order to stay on the pulse we need to be open to learning new skills and getting out of our comfort zones. It was time to level up my boutique with new tech which meant hosting my own live trunk shows. Think of it like QVC on TikTok! I recently launched my live stream boutique schedule on Poshmark and offer curated shopping experiences weekly which ties in my love for social media and fashion. My customers get to see items up close and ask me questions in real time, shopping outfits on the spot from the comfort of their phone. It’s so fun getting to know my customers and this new way of shopping humanizes the online boutique experience.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I think networking with professionals that were further along in my industry and learning from those I was inspired by has been pivotal in my journey. Don’t be afraid to go back to school or take a class if your industry or skillset requires it. I had the opportunity to study fashion abroad in Italy for an international fashion program with my university. I learned from artisans in specialized workshops and toured museums containing archives of Gucci, Armani and Ferragamo. It is through these type of experiences that you really grow and gain knowledge. Not only will you learn but you will create friendships with others that are on a similar path as you. Also, it might sound cliché but staying organized and consistent with anything you are working on really helps. I utilize Google Sheets, Google Docs and Google Drive extensively. Canva Pro is a monthly investment but I love all of the content I can create with it.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I think it’s very smart to go all in on our strengths.

Over the years there has been one big point that each of my clients have expressed to me. They were overwhelmed and wanted to focus on what they did best. My client who is highly skilled in microneedling and other advanced skin care procedures didn’t have the energy or time to write blogs after a full day of clients. She loves that I can compose blogs for her site and send email newsletters for her. It’s a win for both of us!
