We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Oswaldo Colina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Oswaldo, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Since I was very little I have the ability to imagine that my hands are a person, this allowed me to develop the ability to move my fingers as if they were legs.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a 41-year-old Venezuelan, I was born in Cabimas, Zulia state and I am the youngest of 5 siblings. I have to leave my country due to the current situation. Today I have lived in Mexico for 5 years. I am a Mechanical Engineer and a professional Photographer, this mix of ingenuity and creativity makes my imagination fly to create entertaining content with my dancing fingers. Since I was very little I have the gift of moving my fingers as if they were legs, and this has allowed me to develop dance skills, being able to imitate any musical genre without limits.
During the pandemic it occurred to me to open the tik tok dedicated entirely to my fingers and thanks to this creativity and today my account exceeds 2.7 million followers with views that exceed 59 million.
This opened the doors for me both in international competitions and the opportunity to work with recognized brands such as Valentino and Amazon Prime.
Something curious is that I DO NOT dance as well as my fingers, people think that I am a professional dancer and the truth is that my fingers surpass my almost two left feet.
My videos have a lot of reach, especially in Europe, and this year I have been invited to participate in several talent contests. (Romania in July, France in August and Italy in October) I already had the opportunity to participate in London and Spain last year and the most recent in America’s Got Talent in Los Angeles. I will have to sacrifice one of these three trips because at my job I don’t have many vacation days left.
I remember once imagining myself participating in a great talent contest, but I never thought that I would step on so many great international stages in such a short time for something that perhaps I saw as insignificant (My Talent)
Artists like Jenifer López, Marck Anthony and Carlos Baute have posted my videos in their stories and it has been very exciting for me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. my creativity. 2. my finger skills.
3. My desire to Dream beautifully.
I tell everyone, if you have a dream, fight for it, use social networks to show your talents because that way the world will be able to see them and this will open many doors.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I have many friends who support me 100% in this dream, Angel, Ruby, Jaime, Hermes, they are always ready to help me put together unique productions for my contests and are attentive to every detail which makes me feel very safe.
