Meet Valentine Avoh

We were lucky to catch up with Valentine Avoh recently and have shared our conversation below.

Valentine, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe my optimistic nature plays a significant role in shaping my perspective. I am convinced that individuals can accomplish great things as long as they exert effort, work diligently, and apply intelligence to their endeavors. It’s crucial to focus on your purpose and destination without being overly preoccupied with others’ achievements or the time it takes.

With a lifelong career in fashion, I currently can’t envision myself doing anything else. This steadfast commitment also cultivates resilience, as for me, there’s only one plan—Plan A.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
The essence of Atelier Valentine Avoh lies in the aspiration to revive Haute Couture in Belgium through wedding dresses that embody refinement, lightness, and delicacy. Drawing inspiration from the golden age of Hollywood cinema, Jazz, and the essence of women, my creations are meticulously crafted for those seeking to showcase their femininity without sacrificing comfort.

Crafted from opulent materials like silk, lace, and feathers, each dress is meticulously handmade in my Brussels atelier, honoring the rich tradition of artisanal craftsmanship.

With a global presence, my dresses have garnered international acclaim and have been featured in press coverage worldwide, making appearances in music videos and movies. To better cater to our international clientele, the launch of our e-shop is imminent, providing a seamless and accessible experience for those seeking the allure of Atelier Valentine Avoh from anywhere in the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three key factors that significantly shaped my journey are resilience, experience, and creativity.

In today’s dynamic landscape, having a unique voice and creative approach is essential. While knowing your competitors is important, authenticity is crucial; copying doesn’t cut it. Success takes time, so resilience is key. Don’t rush into your own project—gain experience first. For those starting their journey, my advice is to foster creativity, prioritize authenticity, build resilience, and seek valuable experiences to lay a solid foundation for long-term success.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
Using your strengths is crucial, but for growth, it’s essential to broaden your skills. The more you know, the better you can lead and guide your future collaborators.

In my own journey, even though I’m a designer, I also enjoy photography, writing, and design overall. Initially, I did everything myself—photographing collections, writing press releases, and designing my website. While I don’t handle photography now, that experience taught me a lot. It helped me choose the right photographer and work closely with her. This applies to other areas too. I like knowing a lot so I can be more in control.
