We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Cieslinski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Hi Sarah, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Growing up in Florida, I spent my free time out in nature. My dad was always outside, and he taught me all about our local birds, native wildlife, gardening, and more. We grew milkweed for Monarch Butterflies, my dad built bird boxes for our neighborhood Screech Owls, and we sat in our yard together while he taught me how to identify different birds based on their songs.
As I got older, those things he taught me stuck and wildlife and our natural environments became my absolute passion and something I knew wanted to spend my life working to save.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a small business, I am involved in every way possible, but my main focus is brand partnerships and growing our business as a whole. I think that what we strive for is my favorite part and what motivates me to continue moving forward, and that is a less polluted planet where people and wildlife are thriving! Watching all of the small, positive changes our community continues to make everyday is an amazing feeling and i’m so happy ZeroWasteStore is here for the ride.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Being passionate. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. Everyday, I come to the office and work together with people I enjoy being around, doing something i’m passionate about. Protecting our environment is what drives me to get out of bed every morning and is my purpose!
2. Having an open mind. We grew the way we did because I was not afraid of feedback, others opinions and input, and constructive criticism. Having an open mind and hearing what your team has to say is so important for growth.
3. Optimism. When you’re as passionate about the environment and wildlife as I am, it’s hard to stay positive when there is a lot of destruction happening to our planet. I truly believe that every action we take has an impact, whether that be positive or negative. To see our large community taking small, positive steps each day, it makes me happy and keeps my optimistic, for a more sustainable future.
My advice is to do something you love, as you will be more successful, and it will lead to long-term happiness without the burnout! Set small goals to help you continue moving forward. It feels good to achieve each one. Learn from your mistakes, they are a great teacher.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are always looking for people passionate about the environment to partner with! If you love the planet or use more natural or low-waste products throughout your home, we’d love to work with you. Please email sarah@zerowastestore.com 🙂
