We were lucky to catch up with Carolina Polanco recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carolina, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I usually listen to music and move my body freely. I close my eyes and let my imagination see what it wants to see. I really like to feel the music and let myself go.
Sometimes I draw color shapes and try to find things in them; I also see the clouds, when there ar them, of course, and I do the same.
Walking outside is something that helps me a lot when I’m overwhelmed and feel like my creativity is going away. See trees, flowers, animals and more helps me to imagine stories.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As an illustrator and world explorer I have my personal brand, I sign as Caro Polanco. I love drawing, creating new characters and places for them. The most exciting thing about sharing my work is that someone in the world react and feels something that moves them inside and perhaps that people may have new thoughts and feelings.
My work is essencially about self-love, self-awarness and the way we relate to others. I’m a bit of an idealist, so I’m always thinking about a better world and better ways to share the earth with other people and beings.
As a Graphic designer I also have a brand, I have barely had it for months and I’m very excited. This brand is called Re*née and I offer branding and social media. I’m working on making it bigger and having a team to work togheter.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being a dreamer has helped me a lot, without dreaming I probably would not have gotten to where I am and I would not continue trying to achieve more goals.
Discipline has been importan to continue on my path and learn as much as I can, I love discovering techniques, informations, ways of thinking, seeing and living the world.
Determination has allowed me to try as many times as necessary and to dare to do certain things
My advice to those who are early in their journey:
Do what you love, do it with passion and remember to contribute something.
Believe in yourself, believe in what you do because it is part of you and remember that something beautiful, provocative, exciting or inspiring can come out of imperfection.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I am very grateful to my friends, we are a group of women; They are always supporting me, inspiring me and I know they will be there when I need them.
I have learned so much from them, from their experiences and from what they have learned both in their lives and in their careers, I have grown as a person and as a professional since they have been in my life.
They are designers and illustrators too, sometimes we work together and we know that we complement each other, so incredible work always comes out. I love them.
