We were lucky to catch up with Charlene Walters, PhD recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charlene , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’ve become resilient in life because I’ve had to. My husband passed away when my two daughters were only two and four years old. It was a very challenging time in my life. I was working several jobs and mid-PhD. Becoming a single mom on top of that was tough and I was constantly being pulled in a million directions. Not only did I have to overcome the tragedy and loss, but I was also forced to come up with a new plan for moving forward. I had to do this not only for myself, but for my children as well. They counted on me.
Additionally, I’ve developed an even greater level of resilience as an entrepreneur. The post-COVID business landscape has been evolving rapidly, and I’ve had to become more resilient to roll with the punches. I’ve aso needed to help the entrepreneurs that I coach become more resilient which has, in turn, also boosted my skills even further.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The work that I do is very exciting because I get to work with a variety of people and within many different industries. It is one of my life’s goals to push people to their highest potential, including myself. Currently, I’m writing my slice-of-life memoir, ghostwriting two books, coaching several entrepreneurs, and working on an new AI project. Can’t wait for what’s next. 2024 is going to be amazing and full of new opportunities for all of us.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important skills and qualities that have helped me in life are my tenancity, my willingness to go after new opportunities, and my interpersonal skills. I work very hard to help those around me while helping myself. You get what you give in life, and the more that I continue to remind myself of that fact, the more I do, in fact, receive. As part of that, I do my best to connect with everyone and really commit to helping them with what they want to accomplish.
I’m also tenacious when going after my goals (and they are lofty). When one thing doesn’t work out, I look for a new path or another way to gain momentum.
Finally, I never sit around and wait for opportunities to find me. I make my own. I look for and see them everywhere. That’s one of the main reasons that I’ve accomplished as much as I have. I create opportunities for myself.
These three qualities have served me well in all aspects of my life, and have enabled me to become the person that I am today.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love collaborations so I am always looking for people to partner with. I am particularly drawn to mutually beneficial arrangements where we both help each other out. These can include some of my current offerings such as coaching, ghostwriting, training, or curriculum development, but they are not limited to those things. I am open to other business collaborations as well. When it comes to partnerships and entrepreneurship, the sky’s the limit. We can all achieve whatever we put our minds to.
