Meet Mirette Seireg

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mirette Seireg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mirette below.

Hi Mirette, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Developing confidence and self-esteem has been a journey for me, one that has been shaped by my life experiences, challenges, and a strong sense of purpose. Here’s a glimpse into my journey: 1. Embracing Risk: As I mentioned in my earlier response, I’ve always been drawn to taking risks. From a young age, I engaged in adventurous activities like climbing cliffs and scuba diving, which allowed me to push my boundaries and build a sense of fearlessness. These experiences taught me that I could handle uncertainty and overcome challenges.
2. Cultural Background: My unique cultural background, being born to an Egyptian Muslim father and an American Jewish mother, provided me with a diverse perspective on life. Growing up with this cultural blend, I learned to appreciate the richness of different traditions and beliefs. This background encouraged me to be open-minded and accepting of others, which in turn boosted my self-esteem.
3. Education and Exploration: Pursuing graduate studies in a remote area of the Andes Mountains in South America, conducting research solo on horseback, exposed me to new cultures and expanded my horizons. It required self-reliance and adaptability, which contributed to my self-esteem.
4. Professional Challenges: My career in international nutrition and food security programs in challenging environments, including war zones, was marked by high-stakes situations and risks. Facing these challenges head-on and making a difference in the lives of those in need bolstered my self-confidence.
5. Resilience and Adaptability: Overcoming adversity, whether it was political unrest, natural disasters, or other crises, required resilience and adaptability. Each time I navigated through such situations successfully, it reinforced my belief in my capabilities.
6. Personal Growth: Making mistakes and learning from them has been a significant part of my journey. I’ve never been afraid to admit when I was wrong and to seek opportunities for growth and improvement. This continuous process of self-reflection and learning has been instrumental in boosting my self-esteem.
7. Pursuit of Purpose: Founding Mpath Music and working towards gender parity and inclusion in the music industry has been a fulfilling and purpose-driven endeavor. When you are passionate about a cause, it can fuel your confidence and drive.
8. Supportive Relationships: Surrounding myself with supportive and like-minded individuals, both personally and professionally, has played a crucial role in my confidence-building journey. Having a partner who shares my vision and the unwavering support of talented composers and collaborators has been invaluable.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
When the President of APM Music asked me “Have you ever considered starting a music library?”, I was incredulous and in disbelief. As it turns out, his idea wasn’t so crazy after all and MPATH began a partnership with APM Music. With over 35 years of experience working in over 30 countries, my mission has always been to facilitate positive change and empower underserved communities to thrive. After years of battling cancer and remote work, I founded MPATH Music in 2018 as my unconventional idea of retirement.

My experience in managing complex social projects riddled with obstacles, is baked into my DNA and fuels the fire in my belly. I had the good fortune to be surrounded by some of the best talent in the business, which I consider family.
MPATH Music is not just any music library; it’s a groundbreaking endeavor. MPATH is the result of a shared commitment to gender parity and inclusion. This village achieved what no other production music library has by ensuring that half of our diverse and highly curated composers are women. This is a significant achievement, considering that women accounted for less than 3% composers in the production music industry. Our approach is grounded in creating and holding a welcoming space for exceptional talent.

In addition to my work with MPATH, I have taken on roles with the Production Music Association (PMA), the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, and the CEO Success Community. Collaborations with groups like the Alliance for Women Film Composers, Mamas In Music, The Disabled Artist Foundation and many others allows our collective networks to join forces and further amplify our voice within the industry.

The most rewarding part of my work in gender equality and inclusion is the community and sisterhood that has formed around this mission.

As for upcoming projects, we have exciting initiatives on the horizon. While continuing to promote under-represented composers and showcasing their unique talents, I’m excited about four niche projects.

1- Music for Deep Relaxation. After a deep dive into evidence-based research on the power of music to promote emotional health, MPATH partnered with award-winning musician/vocalist/composer Lisbeth Scott. In early January 2024 we will be releasing a gorgeous album “Music for Deep Relaxation”, designed to promote emotional resiliency and calm in a stressful world.

2- Music for Women’s Sports. Bold, joyful and in it for the win theme tracks for women’s sports (and for election campaigns), written and produced by women composers. Scheduled for release in February 2024.

3- Music for Kids. Fun, whimsical, and packed with positivity. MPATH recently published Baby Banana by award-winning voice artist/musician/composer, Debi Derryberry. Debi is famously known as the voice of Jimmy Neutron. MPATH is currently working on her second album, a collection of playful tracks for kids with catchy, eco-friendly lyrics.

4- Branded Music for Marketing and Advertising. The bulk of the albums slated for release in 2024 are uplifting, upbeat, and positive, with a memorable hook, that work brilliantly under dialogue. Our solutions result in instant brand recognition and lasting emotional engagement for brands.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perhaps the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are a strong sense of purpose, learning from mistakes, and building community. For someone starting out in production music, I’d offer this advice: Begin with the end in mind and bring your vision into focus. Understand your differentiators, and trust that you have something valuable to offer. Have some deep conversations and ask some courageous questions: Who are your clients, what do they need, and why are you are uniquely qualified to address them? How are you inspiring your team and your community to continuously improve and surpass goals? Are you building trust through integrity and competency? And when a creative, bold, and exciting idea knocks at your door, are you leading with your heart and your head? It’s a soulful journey, and the connections you make along the way are invaluable.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Starting at an early age, the most impactful thing that my parents did for me was to allow me the freedom and responsibility to go out and play on my own, explore, take risks, discover, fall down, and get back up again. I always knew that they truly believed that I could accomplish anything I put my mind to and I always had the space to try out something that excited me.
