Meet Andrew Zhang

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Zhang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Andrew, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’ve really struggled with finding my purpose. Growing up with traditional parents, artistic expression was never something fully supported by my family. However, as I grew older and found my own voice, it was always something that I came back to. As a kid I used to sing in the car for hours on end until I lost my voice, make music videos with my phone and explore all of my interests.

In music, whether it was singing, playing instruments, or now music production, I am fascinated with every part of the creative process. As I went through college and thought about what I want to do with my career, I still wanted to find a place to utilize my creativity and passion for music in the corporate world while having my own artist project.

Since graduating, I’ve found the perfect role at TikTok working with brands and creators to bring advertising campaigns to life while continuing to make music and pursue my musical passion.

My purpose is bringing people together through music through my artist project, technology and culture.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
An innovative and genre-blending producer and artist who has been making music for 6 years, I’ve launched my electronic music project called FRESH LAUNDRY. I want to make beautiful electronic music that blends pop, hip-hop and all forms of electronic music to bring people together and create a community.

I’ve been building a name in NYC and LA playing at some of the best venues such as UnderWare, the Palace, Somewhere Nowhere, the Summer Club and more. I’m currently working on partnering with vocalists and. creating original music for my upcoming EP in 2024!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The top three qualities that have brought me to where I am today are dedication, networking and the ability to take risks.

1. As a musician, I am always trying to find inspiration and there can be moments where the journey is really difficult. If you dedicate yourself to your craft and practice small positive habits every day, you will slowly begin to improve. There are often times where I am not inspired but if you can push through it, you can continue to grow as an artist and musician. It takes years to build the skills necessary to become a professional and I am still learning every day.

2. Network = net worth. It’s important to be kind and network with everyone you meet. You never know where opportunities may come from! In addition, treating your brand and artist project as a business is an important way to get those initial gigs with club promoters, other artists and record labels.

3. Take risks! If you spend your entire life playing the “what if” game, you will always have regrets. The best way to do something is to dive in, take the risk, and learn as you experience it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m currently looking for other artists, musicians and creatives to collaborate with! From all parts of the musical process to the image and marketing of my brand, it is always good to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. There is always something to learn!

I’m looking for people who are serious about their craft and are looking to make something unique and beautiful.
