Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yichi Chou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Yichi, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am from Taiwan and studying abroad in Motion Design after I graduate from college. It was a very different experience; however, it was tough to visit and study in a very different country. I encountered a lot of difficulties and challenges; on the other hand, I learned so much, not only in Motion Design but also in soft skills, such as problem-solving, adaptability, and responsibility. Therefore, these taught me to become an independent and stronger person. It gave me different experiences and perspectives to write my stories. These became assets to my design career.
These adversities have proven to be valued in their imperfections, but it is the best treasures of life. As a result, I create Motion Graphics to visualize my stories, Time Capsule, and I would like to record these times. Luckily, it was featured in the Top Talent of 2019 Adobe Award. I am grateful but I understand that design and challenges won’t stop and it could make me elevate and improve.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I had a chance to learn Motion Media Design and studied abroad at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). Motion Design is a powerful communication tool to convey concepts or ideas and connect to viewers. Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience in both agency and in-house brand marketing teams. I also learned lots of knowledge about Motion Design, including creating graphic designs, illustrations, animations, and motion videos from initial concepts, storyboards, and styleframes, to final animations.
Also, I had experience creating UI animation concepts for smartwatch displays allowed me to bridge the gap between design and motion. I realized that Motion Design could go beyond the traditional screens and become a bridge to communicate and solve problems. I would like to learn more and provide a better understanding or elevate the experience for users. I believe Motion Design serves as a powerful tool for effective communication and problem-solving, providing users with instant clarity and elevating their overall experience.
Motion design is a secret sauce! It’s not just about visuals; it’s about creating the story and experience. Imagine your brand stories unfolding seamlessly, capturing attention, and leaving a lasting impression. Welcome to reach out and collaborate, I would love to help and bring the brand to life together.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Humble, optimistic, and one step at a time and never give up. With a humble and optimistic approach, I navigate each stage of my journey, reminding myself to take one step at a time and never give up. Embracing these principles has proven invaluable, offering me resilience even during challenging moments. While overcoming obstacles can be tough, I find the belief that time will inevitably pass, reinforcing my commitment to pursuing my passions.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Reflecting on my life journey, many people have played pivotal roles in supporting me during various phases. At this moment, I shoutout to my husband, who has been an unwavering pillar of support during challenging times. These struggles were not only external, affecting the world at large, but also deeply personal, causing moments of profound despair. In those trying periods, when I was almost giving up, my husband consistently offered valuable suggestions and encouragement. I am deeply grateful that, with his support, I found the strength to overcome these challenges. This shoutout isn’t just a thank-you; it’s a big nod to the belief they’ve always had in me, keeping me on track and moving forward.
