Monique, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My mother is the source of my resilience. Throughout her life, I have observed her navigate numerous challenges. Her ability to bounce back has always been admirable. I have always applauded her strength in facing adversity.

I am an upcoming entrepreneur, proud to be a black woman in business. As the founder of MAXBEAUTY COMETICS, an online cosmetics store, I embarked on a journey to find the perfect tagline that would embody my brand. It was my eldest sister, LaQueeta, who initially came up with the phrase “OWN THE RIGHT TO BE BEAUTIFUL”. Those words resonated with me deeply, and I fell in love with the tagline. Over a span of five years, I dedicated myself to building my business from the ground up. It required immense effort, countless sleepless nights, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge in order to establish and operate my own brand. Starting out, having a supportive community is crucial. Lisa, my cousin, would always stop what she was doing to share her knowledge whether it would be assisting in writing or giving good advice no matter the day or time. She always made herself available to me. My sister Shamika, who was already a successful entrepreneur, played a pivotal role in my journey. I could always turn to her for guidance and absorb all the wisdom she had to offer. Once I found my niche and defined how I wanted my brand to be perceived, everything fell into place. It was then that I felt prepared to embark on this entrepreneurial adventure. In March 2022, MAXBEAUTY COSMETICS was launched. My brand is dedicated to everyday women, celebrating their uniqueness and embracing their imperfections. Our mission is to empower individuals to recognize the power and value of their own beauty.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The journey I embarked on was greatly influenced by three key qualities: perseverance, research and patience. It is essential to remain dedicated in order to enjoy and witness the outcomes of your hard work.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
While I was establishing my brand and gaining followers on my social media platforms, my Facebook and business account were both compromised by hackers. They managed to seize complete control, resulting in a distressing two-month in a half period that greatly diminished my motivation. However, I am pleased that my social media platforms have now been restored fully back in my hands. As a result, I am gradually rebuilding both myself and my brand, striving to regain the upward momentum that I once had.
