We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matthew Schwartz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Matthew, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’m not sure. I often think of my grandparents. They lived through the last Great War and pushed through and survived even when they didn’t want to. My parents, grandparents, and all my family have sacrificed so much for me to get here – I owe it to them to never stop, to always be pushing forward, and never cease until I’ve reached my goals.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Matthew Schwartz, and I am a musician, songwriter, and producer. I currently spearhead a music collective called Pacifico, run a boutique record label called Pacifirecords, and cohost a podcast called Moontraveling. As a musical collective, Pacifico features both musicians from throughout Pacifico’s history as well as new artists and collaborators. Music has always been an important, if sometimes rocky, outlet in my life over the years, and Pacifico’s latest album Self Care (released on Pacifirecords in 2023) explores that personal journey of growth, from wanting to quit music completely to investing in myself and bettering my life. This album was literally a form of self care for me, and I hope it is for others too. Pacifico is coming up on its 25th year, and we have several things planned to celebrate. Moontraveling is entering its third season, and we have some exciting releases planned for Pacifirecords as well! 2024 will be an exciting year!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1 – Patience We all want things now, but what I have learned is that most often in the entertainment business we have to wait. Sometimes taking a moment to breathe is good for us, for clarity, and not to mention for our creation.
2 – Collaboration
No man is an island, and I believe the best creations are built in collaboration with others. After all, we are the result of all the people we have encountered and spend time with — so I believe nothing good can be created alone.
3 – Organization
Without organization not only would I miss meetings and deadlines but I also wouldn’t be able to orchestrate arrangements, events, or produce songs. It might take time to find a system or process that works for you, but it’s work that pays off.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for people who need help writing a song, producing a song/album, or need help releasing their finished album. I am also looking for those who want to collaborate on new Pacifico music, and those that have a story we should share on Moontraveling.
