We recently connected with Salem Moon and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Salem with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My father and mother. Both always taught me to be respectful, kind, and professional and on time with whatever I decide to tackle. Plus, as an audience member, I like when things are run well and feel like a well-oiled machine; so I look to make my projects the same.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a professional drag queen and show director. I run and operate the shows in downtown Fort Worth at the historic Red Goose Saloon, and I provide a safe and inclusive space for all to see drag entertainment without sacrificing the quality. I’m known as the Glamour Punk of Texas and have won accolades such as Critic’s Choice for Best Drag Performer of 2023 from Fort Worth Weekly. I also have a traveling drag show and we tour convention spaces for anime and pop culture events. I’m a queer person of color and represent and built my own brand.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think being able to critical think, improv, and being kind and understanding are skills that I’ve cultivated into operating and running a successful space and brand. Remember that we never know where everybody comes from, so the more patience and tolerance we have, the better we can learn to understand our fellow man and community.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They taught me how to love myself and love others unconditionally.
