We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaTressa Moses a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaTressa, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Well, I didn’t. It was like purpose found me. In 2013, God started dealing with me concerning my purpose and many of things that I started experiencing were connected significantly to the very things that I’m doing today. I’ll admit, at first it was challenging to accept because this wasn’t part of the plans that I had nor what I envisioned for myself. However, after some time, it began to make more sense and eventually I accepted that this was my purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am LaTressa Moses, teen life coach and author of It Starts as a Child: A Personal Development Guidebook for Teens. I’ve been working with children and teens throughout my career in a variety of settings, including my non-profit. I am the founder of S.T.E.M. 101, Inc, a youth-serving 501 c3 organization in which I work with teenagers by creating learning opportunities to teach them skills necessary for their growth and success in life. I reside in Georgia and continue to lend my life to my personal vision for the youth in my community and surrounding communities.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three key things that were and still are most impactful in my journey have been patience, perseverance, & prayer. When pushing towards your dreams and goals, it can be very challenging. so it’s a must that you learned to be patient with the process, perseverance in the uncertainty, and pray that everything will work.. There’s no way that I would’ve been able to sustain as long as I have and be where I’m at without these.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I take a break & recharge. I prioritize my to-do-list. I realize I’m no good to myself nor those that I aim to serve if I’m not where I need to be mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Also, I don’t mind asking for help–though that’s an area that is a work in progress, but I do realize I can’t always do everything independently.
